The Minutes of the Municipal Council Meeting held on , 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council
Chamber of the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, British Columbia for
the purpose of transacting regular Municipal business.

701 Youth Week Awards – Tony Cotroneo
Tony Cotroneo presented the young people from Maple Ridge and Pitt
Meadows receiving the BC Youth Week Award and presented the Youth
Outreach Initiative Continuum Award to Tyler Noor.
702 New Westminster & District Labour Council
– Day of Mourning Presentation, Jennifer McKenna
Jennifer McKenna spoke to April 28th as being the National Day of Mourning
held to recognize workers killed or injured or made ill on the job. She gave an
overview as to the meaning and the history behind that day.
703 Naturopathic Medicine Week – Marc Boutet
Mr. Boutet was not available to attend.

704 Girl Guides of Canada – Ashley Bloom, Alouette Girl Guides
Ashley Bloom spoke to her involvement with the Girl Guides and the positive
contributions made to the community by the organization.

1151 Katzie Memorandum of Understanding for Blue Mountain
Staff report dated March 16, 2007 recommending that the Mayor and the
Manager of Legislative Services be authorized to execute the draft
Memorandum of Understanding with the Katzie First Nation concerning Blue
Mountain attached to the report. Deferred from the April 10, 2007 Council
Meeting.

1500 COUNCILLORS’ REPORTS
Councillor King
Councillor King attended the Greater Vancouver Regional District meeting on
April 20th and reported that all resolutions on climate change coming from the
World Mayor’s Council were passed. She advised that the Village Assist
Ridge Meadows Society, an organization helping to rebuild a village in Sri
Lanka in the wake of the tsunami, was having a fashion show and authentic
Ceylon high tea on May 12th and encouraged people to attend.
Councillor Speirs
Councillor Speirs attended Earth Day on April 22nd. He spoke to the Race the
Ridge Bike Race on April 28th and 29th and also acknowledged the large group
of volunteers in Maple Ridge.
Councillor Stewart
Councillor Stewart attended the Sunshine Dreams for Kids charity baseball
event, Earth Day, a meeting with the Justice Institute and the Fire Academy,
the memorial service of George Mussallem, the opening of the first phase of
the Pitt River Regional Greenway and a Baha'i Faith dinner. He also reminded
all of the upcoming Big Bike Race for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Councillor Hogarth
Councillor Hogarth attended Earth Day. He advised that it was Volunteer
Recognition Week and wished to recognize the Eagles as a volunteer
organization raising funds to donate to other volunteer organizations. He also
encouraged participation in the Maple Ridge Home Show on May 4th, 5th and
6th as well as the Rhodo Sale at the Whonnock Lake Centre.

Councillor Dueck
Councillor Dueck attended the Citizen of the Year Event, the celebration of life
for George Mussallem and the opening of the first phase of the Pitt River
Regional Greenway.
Councillor Daykin
Councillor Daykin attended the Sunshine Dreams for Kids charity baseball
event, the Maple Ridge Historical Society heritage tea at the seniors’ activity
centre, the Shower of Stars Event and the Farmers’ Market. He also attended
the official opening of the first BCAA office in Maple Ridge.
1600 MAYOR’S REPORT
Mayor Robson encouraged participation in Volunteer Week. He attended the
Sunshine Dreams for Kids charity baseball event, the Citizen of the Year
Event, and the all star football game at Samuel Robertson Technical
Secondary.

1900 QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
Gladys Hewson
Ms. Hewson asked if more support would be given to hockey in the Maple
Ridge/Pitt Meadows area and if the Pitt Meadows arenas would be supported.
Mayor Robson advised that the City of Pitt Meadows could be contacted in
regard to the Pitt Meadows arena.
