It is with much dismay that we find ourselves having to write to you almost two years later, to report that our citizens have yet to have an answer from any of the offices that were originally involved in looking into the incident. Minister Shea, we know that you take the aforementioned incidents seriously, as it is clear when looking over DFOs definitions related to fish habitat, which are presented on your Ministry's website to assist the reader to better understand the DFO's Habitat Management Program, emphasis is on fish protection. The following is an excerpt from the website and encapsulates what our citizens have been looking for: Protection (of Habitat) Prescribing guidelines and conditions, and enforcing laws for the purpose of preventing the harmful alteration, destruction or disruption offish habitat. Minister Shea, something happened on the North Alouette in May of 2009 and without a full investigation, the intent of your work is not being met. Maple Ridge has some of the strongest Riparian Streamside Protection Regulations in the region and our citizens have high expectations in this regard. They also recognize that all levels of government must work together to ensure our fish, wildlife and environment are protected and meet their high standards. They have reported to us that through this experience, they believe this is seriously lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to respectfully request that you personally ensure the appropriate follow up has taken place, is reported publicly and if someone is responsible, they are brought to justice. We look forward to your response and thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter. Sincerely, A, Top of Page
