The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Agricultural Advisory Committee,
held via Zoom teleconference on January 27, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

5.2 Committee Orientation
The Staff Liaison explained the mandate of the Agricultural Advisory Committee and the
Committee Clerk provided an overview of Committee proceedings.
5.3 2022 Meeting Schedule
The Committee approved the 2022 meeting schedule.

That the Committee approve the 2022 meeting schedule as circulated.

5.4 Chair and Vice Chair Selection
The Committee nominated Alec Biln as Chair and Jeff Laity as Vice Chair for 2022.

That Alec Biln be appointed as Chair of the Agricultural Advisory Committee for 2022.

5.5 2022 Work Plan
The Staff Liaison provided an overview of the 2022 Work Plan.

That the Committee create a Food and Garden Task Force including Lorraine Bates and Jeff Laity
to select the winners of the 2022 Food and Garden Contest and report its findings to the
Committee at the last regular meeting of 2022.

5.6 Lougheed Transit Corridor Area Plan
The Staff Liaison provided an overview of Lougheed Transit Corridor Area Plan.

5.7 Flooding Response Update
Conley Keyes described the response efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture to the flooding of
November 2021, including soil contamination, cleanup efforts and the prevalence of odours.
6. LIAISON UPDATES
6.1 Staff Liaison
The Staff Liaison reviewed the ongoing work of the Committee.
6.2 Council Liaison
Council Meadus provided an update on the following:
• The ongoing work of the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, who has been on the job for over
three months.
• The proposed Haney Place Mall project, which could include smaller storefronts, post-
secondary institutions, residential development and a covered farmers’ market.
• The results of the recent Building Permit Function review and the implications for ongoing
operations.
7. TASK FORCE UPDATES
7.1 2021 Food and Garden Contest
This item was covered in 5.5.
8. QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC
Christian Cowley commented on the speaker series list and requested that a presentation on
cover crops be included.
9. ROUNDTABLE
Members discussed relevant issues and activities related to local agriculture.
