CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3.ADOPTION OF MINUTES R/2022-010 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee meeting dated February 3, 2022 be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4.DELEGATIONS 4.1 Courtney Miller, Gallery Manager and Curator, ACT introduced herself 4.2 Darlene Slevin and Stephane Labonne, guest Staff from the City introduced themselves 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 3.0 Public Art Steering Committee Minutes June 2, 2022 Regular Meeting Page 2 of 4 5.1 Project Updates 5.1.1 Street Banners 2022-2025 D. Pope introduced the artwork for the banners to the Committee, including two works from Katzie First Nation artist Rain Pierre and one each from community artists, Tammy Routley and Charlotte Johnson. Staff confirmed installations commenced the week of May 30, 2022 and that City website updates introducing the work to the public would be coming soon. 5.1.2 Kanaka Regional Park Mural D. Pope reviewed feedback on proposed artwork. Staff confirmed the Committee had one opportunity to provide feedback to Metro Vancouver and advised that Committee members are invited to see the artwork in progress at the site. R/2022-011 It was moved and seconded that the Kanaka Regional Park Mural as presented be endorsed in principle; and further that PASC comments provided be incorporated into the final design CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 5.1.3 Albion Community Center D. Pope confirmed that the facility opening date has been set at June 14, 2022. Note: Steven Bartok joined the meeting at 4:18 pm 5.1.4 McLean Homes Update D. Pope advised the Committee that the site housing the proposed artwork is undergoing the approval process at the City. 5.1.5 Artist in Residence Update 5.1.5.1 CPR Pedestrian Tunnel Staff advised that MOTI has not provided permit for the project yet and the plan is to roll out the package in the spring of 2023. The Committee discussed the current artist in residence is facilitating feedback on the ‘little library’ project. The Committee discussed an upcoming call for artists, as the current artist in residence term expires in August 2022. C. Miller and S. Hayes will participate in the selection committee. Public Art Steering Committee Minutes June 2, 2022 Regular Meeting Page 3 of 4 5.2 Cultural Crawl Map D. Pope informed Committee that some funding has been set aside to move the project forward and that staff will collaborate with the City’s Economic Development office to highlight public art inventory with an emphasis on Maple Ridge as a tourist destination. Committee discussion on what form the map should take and whether there’s an opportunity to engage a local artist to develop the map. The item will be put on the agenda of the next meeting to discuss funding, ideas, and call for artists in autumn 2022. 5.3 Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan D. Pope informed Committee that the Master Plan is currently in the midst of public engagement, and that postcards soliciting feedback were sent to Maple Ridge residents in May 2022. Further public engagement is planned through the use of sounding boards in the coming week throughout the community. Note: Leigh Smith joined the meeting at 4:32 pm 6 LIAISON UPDATES 6.1 Staff Liaison Staff were approached by a community leader regarding a mural near Bailey House, and this may be a project for 2023. Staff will look to Committee for feedback on an expression of interest in Autumn 2022. 6.2 Council Liaison DCC’s, CAC’s and a number of employment land projects are being reviewed by Council. Festival funding for intake one was endorsed by Council. Pride in the Park is taking place July 16, 2022 between 10 am and 4 pm. 7 TASK FORCE UPDATES 7.1 Public Art Plan Framework and Policy The Committee discussed that this project is on hold until autumn 2022 when a new staff liaison comes onboard. D. Luxton, S. Hayes, D. Pope, and D. Slevin will meet to discuss how to start the process. 7.2 Artist in Residence Program Committee discussed the need for another member to start the process. C. Miller expressed interest in being part of the process. 8 QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC – NIL Public Art Steering Committee Minutes June 2, 2022 Regular Meeting Page 4 of 4 9 ROUNDTABLE Committee members shared details on upcoming events related to public art in the community. C. Miller provided details of open call for exhibition titled “We Begin Again” between now and November 7, 2022. The exhibition will take place in November and December 2022. D.
