APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2018-011 It was moved and seconded That the September 5, 2018 Social Policy Advisory Committee agenda be approved as circulated. CARRIED 3. ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2018-012 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Social Policy Advisory Committee meeting dated June 6, 2018 be adopted. CARRIED Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes September 5, 2018 Page 2 of 4 4. DELEGATIONS 4.1. Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association Update  Ineke Boekhorst, Executive Director Ms. Boekhorst gave a presentation on the history of the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association and spoke to their objective of facilitating a unique shopping experience that is family friendly, walkable and close to home. Ms. Boekhorst shared a video highlighting the businesses in the downtown area and the various promotions, festivals, grants and events that the organization runs throughout the year. Ms. Boekhorst advised that the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association has been recognized and awarded on a Provincial level and she shared upcoming plans and projects. Ms. Boekhorst answered questions from the Committee. 4.2. Constituency Youth Council  Hailey Robinsmith Ms. Robinsmith gave a presentation on the purpose, community engagement, and goals of the Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge Constituency Youth Council. Ms. Robinsmith answered questions from the Committee and invited members to share potential engagement opportunities for youth in the community. Members identified local ideas of which youth in the community can learn about, discuss, and possibly develop recommendations to relay to MP Ruimy. 5. ROUNDTABLE Tony Cotroneo advised that Shawn Matthewson is retiring from the City of Maple Ridge. The Chair thanked Ms. Matthewson for all her years in supporting the committee. Shawn Matthewson thanked Trish Salisbury for her volunteerism and the committee wished her well on her retirement from the Child Development Centre. Ms. Salisbury reported that the Child Development Centre is excited to have Ms. Matthewson begin as their Executive Director. Annette Morgan reported that the sixth edition of the Seniors Resource Guide will be published shortly. The Dementia Friendly Community Task Force is conducting a Walkability study on September 10, 2018 with City of Maple Ridge staff to look at the build environment with a dementia and age friendly lens. The Age-Friendly Initiative subcommittee continues work on a seniors transportation initiative and is working with City of Maple Ridge Information Technology staff to build a mapping function on the City website to include points of interest important to seniors in the community. Ms. Morgan advised that the Seniors Network is hosting a presentation by ICBC on pedestrian safety for Seniors on September 26, 2018 and a Senior driver re-exam information session on October 24, 2018 at the Seniors Activity Centre. Trish Salisbury advised that the Child Development Centre AGM will be held September 25, 2018 at the Burnett Fellowship church. Cathy Bennett is pleased with the walkability of the 232 Street upgrades. Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes September 5, 2018 Page 3 of 4 Laura Butler advised that Ridge Meadows Hospital is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with an open house at the hospital on September 27, 2018. The grand opening of the Baillie House Café is scheduled for September 26, 2018. Dr. Tyler shared highlights of her current work with the Division of Family Practice, Fraser Health and public health on the development of a primary care network service plan. Candace Gordon advised that tickets for the October 12, 2018 Golden Harvest event are on sale and explained that the annual event continues to highlight the food produced in Maple Ridge and the region. Ms. Gordon reported that the Provincial Government’s nutrition coupon program has expanded to include additional farmers markets and has also increased the monetary amount received by each recipient. 6. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1. Fall Workshop on EDI sub-scales The staff liaison thanked the subcommittee for their participation and noted a strong template and process was created for a successful workshop. The workshop will not be proceeding in September. 6.2. Update on the resolutions around physician recruitment The Council liaison advised that the resolutions will be presented at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention running September 10-14, 2018. 6.3. Meeting schedule 2018 There was discussion on postponing the next scheduled meeting from November to December or January. The Committee agreed to maintain the scheduled November meeting date. 6.4. 2019 Business Planning The Chair and staff liaison advised that the Business Planning process will commence at the November meeting. 6.5. Plan H Grant The staff liaison advised of the Committee’s history with Healthy Communities BC. Dr. Tyler advised of her upcoming presentation to Council on October 2, 2018. There was discussion on the Committee working to find relationships with Heathy Communities BC and building actions into the 2019 Business Plan. Dr. Tyler offered to present on Healthy Communities BC at the next Committee meeting. Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes September 5, 2018 Page 4 of 4 7. COMMITTEE UPDATES 7.1. Community Network Trish Salisbury reported on the last Community Network meeting held in June. The Community Network AGM is scheduled on September 11, 2018 at 1:00pm in the Fraser Room at the Maple Ridge Public Library. Ms. Salisbury advised of two workshops hosted by the Ridge Meadows Community Children’s Table with speaker Cris Rowan at the Maple Ridge Public Library. The ‘Technology Balance – Mixed Signals’ workshop will be held November 15, 2018 at 1:00pm and the ‘Disconnect to Connect’ workshop is scheduled for 1:00pm on November 17, 2018. 7.2. Youth Strategy Tony Cotroneo advised that the Youth Strategy is in a holding pattern. 7.3. Opioid Overdose Working Group Dr. Tyler provided an update on the funding received and on the projects underway by the Community Action Team. 7.4. Youth Wellness Centre Tony Cotroneo reported on the continued work of the Youth Wellness Centre and advised the lease has been extended to 2020. The Council liaison advised of a meeting he attended which is planning a ‘For the Love of Youth’ fundraiser in February 2019. 8. CORRESPONDENCE - Nil 9. QUESTION PERIOD - Nil 10.
