CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3.ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2022-SPAC-012 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Social Policy Advisory Committee Meeting dated June 1, 2022 be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4.DELEGATIONS – NIL 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Committee Membership Review – Arsh Dhillon, Committee Clerk 3.0 mapleridge.ca Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes September 7, 2022 Regular Meeting Page 2 of 3 Doc#2984682 A.Dhillon, Committee Clerk, provided an update on the SPAC membership recruitment process and progress. 5.2 SOAR Analysis – Tony Cotroneo, Staff Liaison & Recreation Manager, Community Engagement T. Cotroneo, Staff Liaison, facilitated the discussion for the 2023 Work Plan utiliz ing the Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results (SOAR) Analysis. Topics of discussion included: community and societal trends or gaps, committee assets, future goals and outcomes. T. Cotroneo will generate a draft 2023 Work Plan using the discussion points for the SPAC to endorse at the next regular meeting. 6.LIAISON UPDATES Note: Marissa Stalman left the meeting at 7:13 pm 6.1 Staff Liaison – Tony Cotroneo The Staff Liaison provided an update on the following: •The Youth Planning Table engaged over 1000 young people to discuss graduation walks, rainbow trees, and the current formation of the rainbow sidewalk on 224th Street. •City staff are working on the Access and Inclusiveness Framework and the PRC Master Plan. •Many community parks and facilities opened over the summer, including Albion Community Centre, Silver Valley Gathering Place, and Jordan Mclldoon Legacy Bike Park. 6.2 Council Liaison – Councillor Dueck Councillor Dueck provided an update on the following: •The Municipal Election taking place in October 2022. 7.TASK FORCE UPDATES 7.1 2022 SPAC Work Plan T. Cotroneo, Staff Liaison, addressed the 2022 SPAC Work Plan during Item 5.2. 8.QUESTION PERIOD - NIL 9.ROUNDTABLE Members provided verbal reports on relevant events, activities and social policy topics. 9.1 Youth Strategy T. Cotroneo, Staff Liaison, provided an update on the Youth Strategy. The City of Maple Ridge received $440,000 of annual funding for 4 years focused on gangs and guns. This funding will support some of the priorities of the Youth Strategy Action Plan. 9.2 Community Action Team (CAT) - NIL Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes September 7, 2022 Regular Meeting Page 3 of 3 Doc#2984682 10.ADJOURNMENT – 7:39 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Social Policy Advisory Committee will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Jenny Early, Chair ad/ Social Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) TO: Committee Members MEETING: February 1, 2023 FROM: Committee Clerk SUBJECT: Chair and Vice Chair Selection BACKGROUND: The goal of the Chairperson is to ensure that the Commission functions properly, that there is full participation during meetings, that all relevant matters are discussed, and that effective decisions are made and carried out. There are three main spheres that the Chairperson has to manage: •Assisting with the planning of meetings •Running the meetings •Ensuring that the Committee is achieving its goals The Committee Clerk will chair the meeting as the Acting Chair until a new Chair is appointed or for the duration of the meeting. During the meeting, the floor will be opened for Committee members to nominate fellow members for the position of Chair and Vice Chair. In order for their name to stand, an individual must accept the nomination. If there are multiple nominations and nominees willing to serve, voting will be done through ballots. If a Committee member is participating virtually, voting will be done virtually via Zoom. The Committee member will send a private Zoom chat message to the Committee Clerk with their vote. The Committee Clerk will compile all the votes and provide the results to the Committee. The Committee Clerk will then ask if any member would like to put forward a motion that the selected individual be appointed as Chair or Vice Chair for 2023. Once the Chair and Vice Chair have been appointed, the meeting can be turned over to the appointed Chair or the Committee Clerk can continue as the Acting Chair for the remainder of the meeting with approval from the newly elected Chair. RECOMMENDATION(S): That be appointed as Chair of the Social Policy Advisory Committee for 2023. How we plan our cities and neighbourhoods affects the health and well-being of individuals and community in the following ways: Our ability to get around; Where and in what type of housing we live; What food we have access to; Access to income; How much and what kind of green space we can play and rest in; How safe, connected and included we feel in our neighbourhoods; and Engagement and sense of beloging.
