City of Maple Ridge Social Policy Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes April 5, 2023 The Minutes of the Regular Social Policy Advisory Committee Meeting held via Zoom teleconference and hosted in the Blaney Room at Maple Ridge City Hall on April 5, 2023 at 6:00 pm. Dumore, School District No.42 Trustee, provided an overview of Youth Tank. A Youth Tank video was played for Committee members. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1. Committee Member Introductions New Committee members introduced themselves to the group. Committee members requested presentations at a future meeting to review the projects completed by the Social Policy Advisory Committee. 5.2. Update on SD42 Student Charity Event T. Cotroneo, Staff Liaison, provided an update on the SD42 Student Charity Event. Topics included: resource availability, community support, and next steps. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.3. Council’s Strategic Plan Councillor Dozie provided an overview of the five (5) priorities and a vision for Council’s Strategic Plan. The community can provide feedback until April 14, 2023. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 6.LIAISON UPDATES – NIL 7.TASK FORCE UPDATE – NIL 8.QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC – NIL 9.ROUNDTABLE Committee members provided updates and reports on relevant events, activities and social policy topics. K. Dumore, School District No.42 Trustee, discussed the Youth Safehouse article. Unable to vote on approval of agenda due to lack of quorum 3.ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES That the minutes of the Social Policy Advisory Committee meeting dated April 5, 2023 be adopted as circulated. Unable to vote on adoption of minutes due to lack of quorum 4.DELEGATIONS 4.1. Review of Council’s Strategic Plan Item moved to next meeting 4.2. Emilio – Student Donation Bin Project Update E. Alcantar provided an update on the Student Donation Bin Project. Students organized a donation campaign to collect hygienic products and clothing to support people in need, working with 3.2 • Maple Ridee - Social Policy Advisory Committee Minutes December 11, 2023 Page 2 of 2 representatives from the City of Maple Ridge, Salvation Army, and the Youth Centre, as well as reaching out to local businesses like Dentists to collect items. Presentation topics included: a brief overview of the project, the students action plan to collect donations, as well the obstacles students faced in collecting their donations. 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Prepare for 2024 Work Plan Item moved to next meeting, due to lack of quorum. 6.LIAISON UPDATES 6.1. Staff Liaison T. Cotroneo, Staff Liaison, gave a brief update on the proposed Recreation Centre in Hammond, the BC Summer Games, and Maple Ridge 150. 6.2. Council Liaison Councillor O. Dozie, Council Liaison, gave a brief update on the Bus Rapid Transit and the E- Moli Battery Plant. He also activated Committee Members to consider ways that Maple Ridge can utilize the upcoming year and potential publicity brought by the BC Summer Games and Maple Ridge 150 to change the perspective around Maple Ridge and bring more to the community. 7.TASK FORCE UPDATE – NIL 8.QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC – NIL 9.ROUNDTABLE Committee members provided updates and reports on relevant events, activities and social policy topics. A. Isaac, Member at Large and Representative of the Community Action Table, discussed the upcoming Speaking Through the S.T.O.R.M event at the ACT. A. Sanchez discussed updates with Fraser Health as well as the Community Network, including outreach events with a local Katzie Nation Elder. 10.ADJOURNMENT – 6:53 pm Ava Sanchez, Acting Chair /ed Social Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) TO: Committee Members MEETING: February 7, 2024 FROM: Committee Clerk SUBJECT: Chair and Vice Chair Selection BACKGROUND: The goal of the Chairperson is to ensure that the Committee functions properly, that there is full participation during meetings, that all relevant matters are discussed, and that effective decisions are made and carried out. There are three main spheres that the Chairperson has to manage: •Assisting with the planning of meetings •Running the meetings •Ensuring that the Committee is achieving its goals The Committee Clerk will chair the meeting as the Acting Chair until a new Chair is appointed or for the duration of the meeting. During the meeting, the floor will be opened for Committee members to nominate fellow members for the position of Chair and Vice Chair. In order for their name to stand, an individual must accept the nomination. If there are multiple nominations and nominees willing to serve, voting will be done through ballots. If a Committee member is participating virtually, voting will be done virtually via Zoom. The Committee members will send a private Zoom chat message to the Committee Clerk with their vote. The Committee Clerk will compile all the votes and provide the results to the Committee. The Committee Clerk will then ask if any member would like to put forward a motion that the selected individual be appointed as Chair or Vice Chair for 2024. Once the Chair and Vice Chair have been appointed, the meeting can be turned over to the appointed Chair or the Committee Clerk can continue as the Acting Chair for the remainder of the meeting with approval from the newly elected Chair.
