Jacqueline Mulcahy noted that the information Lisa Zosiak provided helped to clarify the use of this heritage conservation support tool. 5.4 Ghost Stories – Event Planning Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that this event has been advertised in the Heritage Commission Newsletter and that letters have gone out to everybody on the Heritage Inventory. 5.5 Byrnes House Properties Lynne Probyn provided an update on the Byrnes House and asked for input regarding whether a Heritage Recognition Plaque should be placed on the house that was designated as a “Heritage House’along with the Heritage Award plaque that it received at this year’s Heritage Awards.Ms.Probyn also noted that the cost of a heritage plaque would be approximately $460. The Commission discussed the option of adding the heritage designation to the current plaque that is already on the house. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of 5 ACTION ITEM:Lynne Probyn to visit the heritage house and report back to the Commission on the details of the plaque that is currently on the house. Brenda Smith advised the Commission that the heritage poster that Bruce’s Market received at the 2006 Heritage Awards is starting to look aged and requested that it be replaced by a framed poster.Helmi Braches noted that she will find out from Fred Braches if another poster is available. 5.6 Spring House Tour – 2011 – Lynne Probyn Lynne Probyn advised the Commission that Michael Cook will Chair the sub- committee meetings for the Spring House Tour.Brenda Smith noted that she will contact Ethel Field who has information on Heritage House Tours. 5.7 Events Maple Ridge Historical Society AGM – Jacqueline Mulcahy Jacqueline Mulcahy provided a review from the Maple Ridge Historical Society Annual General Meeting that she attended. ACTION ITEM:Committee Clerk to add Maple Ridge Historical Society under Sub-Committee Reports. Earth Day – Jacqueline Mulcahy Jacqueline Mulcahy advised the Commission that she will have a booth set up for the Community Heritage Commission at the Earth Day Celebration which takes place on April 24th between 10am and 2pm in Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge.Lisa Zosiak confirmed that she can provide Jacqueline Mulcahy with printed information for the booth. The Commission discussed the idea of promotional magnets for this event and future events. Meeting with Port Coquitlam Historical Society – Lisa Zosiak Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that she will be meeting with the Port Coquitlam Historical Society to discuss creating a Heritage Register.Ms. Zosiak also noted that she will be attending a conference on Building Sustainable Communities to present on Heritage Revitalization Agreements.Conference is scheduled from November 16-18,2010 in Kelowna. Heritage Tea – Brenda Smith Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 4 of 5 Brenda Smith advised the Commission that on Saturday,April 10th the senior’s building (Ecra Centre)are hosting a Heritage Tea at 1:00 p.m. and the cost is $5.00 Canadian Pavilion on Women’s History – Brenda Smith Brenda Smith advised the Commission that she has been invited to speak on family research techniques on August 13th at the Canadian Pavilion on Woman’s History conference with Val Patenaude. Heritage Fairs – Brenda Smith Brenda Smith advised that Mary Campone might be able to attend the May Community Heritage Commission meeting. 5.8 Hammond Plaque Discussion The Commission discussed the naming of the Welcome to Hammond Plaque with reference to a request from a resident who would like to see Port Hammond Junction included on the signs.The Commission agreed that this issue should be included in the context study.Lisa Zosiak noted that she will contact the resident to advise him that this will be dealt with in late 2010 once the context study has been completed. ACTION ITEM:Create a program for Historical Signs 6.Sub-Committee Reports 6.1 Newsletter Helmi Braches provided an update on the Community Heritage Commission newsletter.The Commission confirmed that the following items should be included in the spring newsletter;an update on the Miller Residence Heritage Revitalization Agreement,Earth Day information,update on the Buckerfield House,Jim Connor’s newspaper article on Sustainability and an article on why signage is important to the heritage of a community. 6.1.1 Distribution Options The Commission discussed sending out the newsletter electronically. Nicole Read provided an example of how a template would work.Helmi Braches will confirm with Fred Braches whether he will be able to create a new template. 6.2 Heritage Awards – review of the awards Lisa Zosiak noted that the Buckerfield House was built in 1932 by Arthur H. Batterham and noted that Val Billesberger would like to look into the archives to confirm some information;the value of the house and where the house was built Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 5 of 5 on the property through the tax rolls.Nicole Read advised the Commission that the conveyances (history of the title)should be reviewed as the information contained within the tax rolls are not guaranteed.Nicole Read noted that it would be nice to have a small budget in order to work with the Land Title Office to pull conveyances. ACTION ITEM:Add review of the Buckerfield/Batterham House to the May agenda. 6.3 Heritage Context Study, update Lisa Zosiak provided an update on the Heritage Context Study and requestedfinal feedback from the members of the Commission. Nicole Read provided an explanation as to why she is unable to provide comments on the exclusion of First Nations information within the Context Study. A discussion took place pertaining to the retention of the consultant’s services. ACTION ITEM:Lisa Zosiak to email the consultant’s with the feedback from the Commission. 6.4 Heritage Plaque Program Lynne Probyn provided an update on the Heritage Plaque Program. 6.5 CHC Facebook Page Sarah Hossack noted that there are now 29 members on the Facebook page. 6.6 Newspaper Articles - Nil 6.7 Street Naming Lisa Zosiak provided an update on the Wayfinding Signage project that she is working on with the Engineering Department and informed the members that the original street names will be identified on some of the street signs.Also,the Wayfinding signs that point to the direction of heritage buildings,such as the Haney House and St. Andrews Church, will include a photo of the site. Lisa Zosiak distributed photos of what is proposed by the sign consultant to the commission members.Helmi Braches noted that the overall color is very dark.
