CARRIED 4.Delegations - None 5.New & Unfinished Business 5.1 Heritage Context Study – review of 2nd Draft Lisa Zosiak provided an update on the Heritage Context Study and advised the Commission that all comments provided by the sub-committee will go forward to the consultants for inclusion in the Heritage Context study. 5.2 BC Heritage Fairs Brenda Smith advised the Commission that there is an interest in hosting a Heritage Fair in Maple Ridge and provided information BC Heritage Fairs. The Commission discussed hosting a BC Heritage Fair in Maple Ridge along with the costs associated and possible venues. Brenda Smith provided a review of the BC Historical Federation and noted that it would be beneficial if the Commission became a member of this federation. R10-016 It was moved and seconded That staff complete a membership application to join the BC Historical Federation at a yearly cost of $25. CARRIED 5.3 Cemetery Tour – Spring 2011 The Commission discussed different ideas for a Cemetery Tour with the thought that one would be held sometime in 2011.The Commission agreed that planning for this event should start in January 2011 with the formation of a sub-committee Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, June 23, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of 5 in September 2010. 5.4 New Westminster House Tour – Michael Cook’s report Lisa Zosiak provided copies of his report on the New Westminster House Tour. Lynne Probyn provided a review of the house tour that she attended in New Westminster. The Commission discussed hosting a Maple Ridge Historical House Tour. ACTION ITEM:Committee Clerk to add Maple Ridge Historical House Tour to a future agenda. 5.5 Statement of Significance Conference (Port Moody) – Lynne Probyn’s report Lynne Probyn advised that the Statement of Significance Conference was an interesting and very involved conference and provided a review of preparing a Statement of Significance. Lisa Zosiak reviewed what a Statement of Significance is with the Commission. 5.6 Committees and Commissions policy – Commission feedback & comments The Committee Clerk reviewed the Committees and Commissions Policy with the Commission. ACTION ITEM:Commission members to email feedback to the Committee Clerk on the Committees and Commissions Policy. Please note that Item 5.8 was dealt with prior to Item 5.7 5.7 Golden Harvest Event Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that Diana Hall,Staff Liaison for the Maple Ridge Agricultural Advisory Committee and organizer of the Golden Harvest Event requested that the Community Heritage Commission pass a motion that allows the Commission to sponsor Commission members attending this event. ACTION ITEM:Committee Clerk to add this to the September agenda. 5.8 CHC Information Pamphlet Jacqueline Mulcahy asked what happened with the Community Heritage Commission information Pamphlet and the Committee Clerk advised that she will pass this on to John Leeburn, Executive Assistant to the CAO for review prior to publication. ACTION ITEM:Committee Clerk to review the pamphlet with John Leeburn. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, June 23, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 4 of 5 Please note that Jacqueline Mulcahy left the meeting at 7:55p.m.Please note that Item 5.7 was dealt with prior to Item 6. 5.9 Digitization of Historic Records Brenda Smith provided a review of the conference at UBC where they explored how to make history available on the web and noted that on Saturday,June 27, 2010 there will be a workshop on using the ancestry library addition. Brenda Smith provided examples of how history is entering the digitization world. Ms.Smith noted that she would like to see a plan for the future to secure records within the District of Maple Ridge and keep them safe from the environment. Lisa Zosiak suggested that a meeting be set up with a digitization expert and Val Billesberger who is the Municipal Records Manger for the District of Maple Ridge to discuss this further. ACTION ITEM:Staff to talk to Val Billesberger about inviting Jan Turner out to review some of the records that are being stored in the warehouse. 5.10 Creative Communities Funding Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that she was approached by the Parks & Leisure Services Commission as they would like to submit an application for Creative Communities Funding. ACTION ITEM:Staff to invite Kelly Swift to the October meeting. Lisa Zosiak provided an update o 6.Sub-Committee Reports 6.1 Newsletter 6.1.1 New template review Lisa provided an update on the newsletter and the possibility of having an online newsletter. ACTION ITEM:Committee Clerk to add this to the agenda for September. 6.2 Heritage Awards Lisa Zosiak distributed the nomination forms to the Commission members. Lynne Probyn reviewed the different categories with the Commission 6.3 Heritage Plaque Program – review application Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, June 23, 2010 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 5 of 5 Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that she will contact Fred Braches for a picture of the Heritage Plaque. ACTION ITEM: Committee Clerk to insert picture into the application and email version to Lynne. 6.4 CHC Facebook Page – deferred 6.5 Maple Ridge Historical Society update Lynne Probyn advised that she and Brenda Smith attended a Historical Society meeting where they provided a review of the Community Heritage Commission. Ms.Probyn noted that she and Brenda Smith will take turns attending the Maple Ridge Historical Society’s meetings.
