R11-004 It was moved and seconded That L ynne Probyn is appointed as Chai r and Jacqueline Mulcahy as Vice-Chair for the 2011 Term. CARRIED 3.Adoption of the Agenda ~ "" MAPLE RIDGE C OMMUNITY H ERITAGE C OMMISSION Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, February 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 2 of 4 R11-005 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda for February 1 , 2011 be ado pted with the following a mendment s; Defer Item 6.4 BC Heritage Fairs CARRIED 4.Minutes of January 4 , 201 1 Regular Meeting be adopted R11-006 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 4, 2011 be adopted . CARRIED 4.Delegations - Nil 5.New & Unfinished Business 5.1 Heritage Context Study – update from Lynne Probyn & Lisa Zosiak Lisa Zosiak distributed a letter from the Maple Ridge Historical Society who are recommending that Context Study be rejected in its entirety. The Commission agreed to review the letter from the Historical Society prior to the next regular meeting to discuss their comments along with the next steps of the Context Study. R11-007 It was moved and seconded That this item be deferred until the comments received from the Maple Ridge Historical regarding the Context Study can be reviewed and discussed And that the comments from the Community Heritage Commission will be provided to the Historical Society. CARRIED 5.2 Cemetery Tour Michael Cook advised that he will provide an update at the March 1, 2011 meeting. 5.3 Map Project Update Lynne Probyn advised that the sub-committee will meet and provide an update at the March 2011 meeting. 5.4 CHC Information pamphlet – deferred Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, February 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of 4 5.5 Digitizing Project Lisa Zosiak advised that the Commission needs to start planning some of the field trips for end of May 2011.The Commission agreed that they would like to visit;North Vancouver Museum (Jan Turner is the Archivist),and the City of Vancouver Archives. Brenda Smith requested that an invitation be sent to Councillors and the Maple Ridge Historical Society to attend these field trips.Brenda Smith noted that she will contact the North Vancouver Museum.Lisa Zosiak will start working on dates and transportation. 5.6 2011 CHC Work Plan Lisa Zosiak distributed and reviewed the draft budget with the Commission members. The Commission discussed plaques and noted that one might need to be done for the Billy Miner Pub, Merkley Park, and the Miller Residence. Brenda Smith provided background information on the History Club that will start on Wednesday, February 2nd at the Maple Ridge Library. It was noted that voting on the budget would be deferred until costs related to potential future projects are confirmed. ACTION ITEM:Staff to ensure all members of the Commission receives a copy of the Context Study draft. Staff to ensure that members of the Commission receive a copy of the 1998 Strategic Plan created by Don Luxton. 5.7 CHC Presentation to Council Michael Cook advised that the Commission now has to make two presentations a year to Council. It was confirmed that the Commission would like to make a presentation in July 2011. It will be important to include any upcoming events. 6.Sub-Committee Reports 6.1 Newsletter - deferred 6.1.1 New template review - deferred 6.2 Heritage Awards 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, February 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 4 of 4 Lisa Zosiak provided an update on the Heritage Awards Ceremony that will take place on Thursday,February 17th at St.Andrew’s Church.Ms.Zosiak recommended a post-evaluation of this year’s nomination process and event. 6.3 Heritage Plaque Program Lisa Zosiak reviewed who would be accepting the awards at the event this year. 6.4 BC Heritage Fairs – deferred. 6.5 CHC Facebook Page Jeremy Laity provided an update on the Facebook page which now has 39 members. 6.6 Maple Ridge Historical Society update Faye Isaac reported on the following items: “Mayor’s Heritage Day” will now been called “Heritage goes to Market” and held on May 28th and July 30th at the Haney Farmer’s Market. The Annual General Meeting will be held on March 24th and will start with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. Councillor Morden advised that an invitation should be sent to the local MLA’s for the Heritage Awards. 7.Correspondence - Nil 8.Next Meetin g: Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda deadline : Monday, February 14, 2011 9.Adjournment -8:32 p.m. ___________________________ Chairperson /tc
