Please note that Jeremy Laity joined the meeting at 6:11 p.m. Shelley Jorde advised that there will be a consultant assisting with this process and also reviewed the members that are currently on the steering committee. Shelley Jorde advised that this process is to identify the gaps that currently exist within the Arts and Cultural Plan for Maple Ridge,Pitt Meadows and Katzie First Nations. Brenda Smith suggested that the Library and Councillor Speirs suggested Kwantlen First Nations have representation on this steering committee. Please note that Michael Cook joined the meeting at 6:16 p.m. Shelley Jorde advised the Commission that those members who wish to be on this Committee are to contact her directly with their expression of interest. 5.New & Unfinished Business 5.1 Heritage Context Study The Commission discussed the comments received from the Maple Ridge Historical Society with regards to the Context Study Draft #3. Action Item:Add “Commission Mandate and Roles” to the next agenda. Add “Review of Terms of Reference”for the Context Study to the next agenda Staff is to email the Terms of Reference for the Context Study to the Commission members. It was moved and seconded - Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of 5 That the Context Study proceeds forward ,and the comments recei ved from the Historical Society be forwarded to the Consultant. CARRIED R11-011 It was moved and seconded That a meeting is arranged for a joint meeting including the Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission and the Maple Ridge Historical Society. CARRIED Please note that Shelley Jorde left the meeting at 7:16 p.m.and Faye Isaac left the meeting at 7:19 p.m. 5.2 Cemetery Tour Michael Cook provided an update on the Cemetery Tour and noted that there is a self-guided cemetery tour available at the Maple Ridge Library that could be used as an example. Brenda Smith reviewed the several ways to engage people in history with a cemetery tour. Lynne Probyn reviewed the New Westminster Cemetery Tour that she has previously participated in. The Commission discussed the idea of having the Cemetery Tour on Heritage Day in August 2011.The group also discussed the option of planning the event in September when the schools are back in session and families are back from holidays. 5.3 Map Project Update Lynne Probyn advised that the maps were available on the night of the Heritage Awards; however, no interest was shown in purchasing the map. 5.4 CHC Information pamphlet Jacqueline Mulcahy reviewed the revised CHC Information pamphlet with the Commission. The Commission had the following suggestions; Font needs to be more prominent Consider adding “Check us out on Facebook” Remove “Key Representative” Add link to CHC Webpage Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 4 of 5 ACTION ITEM:Jacqueline Mulcahy to send this file to the Committee Clerk to be posted on the CHC webpage. 5.5 North Vancouver/Abbotsford Museum Field Trips Brenda Smith provided an update on the possible field trip to the North Vancouver Museum.The Commission discussed holding this event in June 2011. Ms.Smith recommended that a member of Council will be invited.Lisa Zosiak will look into booking the 16 passenger van from youth services. 5.6 2011 CHC Wok Plan and Budget – review and adoption Lisa Zosiak distributed and reviewed the draft budget with the Commission members.Ms.Zosiak confirmed that funds will be allotted to the History Club project, Cemetery Tour event, and the North Vancouver Museum field trip. 5.7 Maple Ridge Museum - discussion Councillor Speirs advised that the Maple Ridge Museum should be an agenda item for the meeting between the Community Heritage Commission and the Maple Ridge Historical Society. 5.7 Albion Hall The Commission discussed Albion Hall and the recent article that was in the local papers. R11 - 012 It was moved and seconded That a recommendation be forwarded to Council requesting an inspection be completed by a heritage consultant to ascertain the heritage value of the site and building. And that a heritage consultant explore options for re-purposing the building. And that a demolition not be undertaken until this process has been completed. And that a public consultation be held prior to any decisions being made. CARRIED 6.Sub-Committee Reports 6.1 Newsletter - deferred 6.1.1 New template review Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 5 of 5 Jacqueline Mulcahy advised that she needs biographies from Jeremy Laity and Councillor Morden and requested that any pictures from the Heritage Awards be forwarded to her. 6.2 Heritage Awards 2011 – review of the event Lynne Probyn provided an update on the Heritage Awards Ceremony that took place on Thursday,February 17th at St.Andrew’s Church.Ms.Probyn noted that there were approximately 60 attendees. Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that the nomination form needs to be updated for next year. ACTION ITEM:Staff to create a revised draft of the nomination form and add “Review of Nomination Form” to the next agenda. 6.3 Heritage Plaque Program Brenda Smith reviewed a presentation of current plaques that are located within Maple Ridge and pointed out the damage that has occurred to them. ACTION ITEM:Staff will share this presentation with facilities staff to investigate how the plaques can be maintained. 6.4 History Club Brenda Smith provided an update on the History Club including past and future events.Ms.Smith noted that the Regional Heritage Fair will be held on April 29th in Abbotsford. 6.5 CHC Facebook Page Jeremy Laity provided an update on the Facebook page which now has 49 members.Mr.Laity reviewed a post from one of the members on the CHC Facebook page. 6.6 Maple Ridge Historical Society update – deferred. 7.Correspondence - Nil 8.Next Meetin g: Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda deadline : Monday, March 21, 2011 9.Adjournment -9:12 p.m. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 6 of 5 ___________________________ Chairperson /tc
