CARRIED 4.Delegations - Nil 5.New & Unfinished Business 5.1 General Store at Webster’s Corner Lisa Zosiak advised the Committee that the cold storage building beside the General Store at Webster’s Corner was demolished. Ms. Zosiak explained that the standard practice is supposed to be that the Heritage Planner is contacted when demolition applications are received for heritage buildings and if the site is not legally protected, Ms. Zosiak will have a discussion with the heritage property owner to see if there are alternative solutions to demolition that may not have been considered. If the property owner of a non-protected heritage site still wants to remove the building, the Heritage Planner can at least ask the property owner to allow for photos and documentation of the building before it is demolished. Ms. Zosiak explained that even though procedures were in place to flag any heritage buildings slated for demolition, it was missed. More procedures have now been incorporated to flag these buildings. 5.2 Heritage Procedures Bylaw Lisa Zosiak reported the Heritage Procedures Bylaw has been adopted by Council. 5.3 Cemetery Tour Michael Cook reported he is taking photos for the tour and estimates to be finished the project by the end of spring. 5.4 Heritage Revitalization Agreements Update Lisa Zosiak updated the Committee that the Turnock Residence application remains at Third Reading for now. 5.5 Port Hammond 130th Birthday - CHC Contribution Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, April 2, 2013 – Regular Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of 5 Craig Speirs provided an update on meeting with Hammond Cedar Mill.Mr. Speirs explained that Hammond Mill was receptive to a tour in the mill and an interpretive sign made for them and presented at the Port Hammond 130th Celebration. Mr.Speirs reported that he will speak with Cyndy Johnson-McCormick regarding the design of the Welcome to Port Hammond Signs to be constructed. 5.6 Dynamic Downtowns Community Workshop Craig Speirs informed the Committee that the Dynamic Downtowns Community workshop has been cancelled, as the organizers ran out of funding. 5.7 Prince George Heritage Commission Michael Cooke reported the Prince George Heritage Commission has a tree register and each of these nominated trees are given a plaque and highlighted in a walking tour. 5.8 CHC Membership Craig Speirs reported the Committee has three vacancies. 5.9 Heritage Awards Programs in BC Craig Speirs reported that the deadline was missed for the 2013 BC Historical Awards, but the Committee should submit an early application for next year. 5.10 CHC Business Cards Lisa Zosiak distributed draft business cards to the Committee for comment. The Committee decided to have individual business cards made for the following Committee members: Craig Speirs, Wayne Beck, Cyndy Johnson-McCormick, Faye Isaac and Brenda Smith. 5.11 Heritage Tea Brenda Smith invited the Committee to the Heritage Tea organized by the Maple Ridge Historical Society on Saturday, April 6 at 1 pm. 6.Sub-C ommittee Reports 6.1 Heritage Plan Craig Speirs updated the Committee on the Heritage Survey preliminary results and confirmed that May 2,2013 there will be a Heritage Plan workshop with Don Luxton for Heritage Commission members. Mr. Speirs estimated the draft will be ready by the end of June. 6.3 Heritage Awards 2014-deffered 6.4 Heritage Plaque Program Craig Speirs reported that he and Cyndy Johnson-McCormick will each be taking a portion of the list of heritage plaques and conducting an inventory of current condition. Mr.Speirs reported that Cyndy Johnson-McCormick will be in touch with the contractor hired to construct the new Port Hammond Signs and Cedar Mill plaque as to cost, most durable materials and design. 6.5 Digitization Project Craig Speirs led discussion on digitizing local historical information.Mr.Speirs reported the Committee must work closely with the municipality to ensure compliance with the freedom of information restrictions and the District’s requirements around information ownership.This may have some effect on the content and dates of the information that will eventually be made available to the public. The Committee discussed possible digital locations to house the content,what kind of set up or service would be feasible to use,possible grants that could be used to cover the cost of the project and maintenance fees.The Committee will gather more information as to the size of digital space needed,and an approximate budget 6.6 Maple Ridge Historical Society Update Brenda Smith reported elections for the Board of the Maple Ridge Historical Society were held on March 21,2013 and at the first meeting of this term,the Society will appoint their executive positions. 6.7 Council Liaison Update - nil 6.8 BC Historical Federation Annual 2013 Conference Brenda Smith gave an overview of the BC Historical Federation Annual 2013 Conference and invited the Committee to attend. It is held in Kamloops, May 9 - 11, 2013 to register on-line go to the website: www.bchistory.ca. 7.Roundtable Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, April 2, 2013 – Regular Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 5 of 5 Wayne Beck -reported that the walking tour of Port Hammond would be a great item to promote within the Port Hammond day event. Brenda Smith - remarked that Council should be reminded that in 2014, Maple Ridge will celebrate its 140th birthday and early preparation should be considered. This reminder can take place at the Committee of the Whole meeting the CHC Committee will attend in June. Michael Cook -reported the City of Richmond is constructing a new museum.
