5.1 General Store at Webster’s Corner
Lisa Zosiak advised the Committee that the cold storage building beside the
General Store at Webster’s Corner was demolished. Ms. Zosiak explained that
the standard practice is supposed to be that the Heritage Planner is contacted
when demolition applications are received for heritage buildings and if the site is
not legally protected, Ms. Zosiak will have a discussion with the heritage property
owner to see if there are alternative solutions to demolition that may not have
been considered. If the property owner of a non-protected heritage site still
wants to remove the building, the Heritage Planner can at least ask the property
owner to allow for photos and documentation of the building before it is
demolished.
Ms. Zosiak explained that even though procedures were in place to flag any
heritage buildings slated for demolition, it was missed. More procedures have
now been incorporated to flag these buildings.
