Adoption of the June 4, 2013 Agenda. R13-019 It was moved and seconded. That the Agenda for the Regular Meeting of June 4, 2013 be adopted. CARRIED 3. Adoption of the May 7, 2013 Regular Meeting Minutes. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Pagel _) Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, June 4, 2013 -Draft It was moved and seconded. That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 7, 2013 be adopted. CARRIED 4. Introductions Chair Craig Speirs introduced Michael Robinsmith as a new Community Heritage Commission Member at Large. Please note Cyndy Johnson-McCormick entered the meeting at 7:02 pm. Please note Steve Ranta entered the meeting at 7:04 pm. 5. Delegations 5.1 Donald Luxton and Darrel Denton -Spencer Farm Milk House Darrel Denton provided an overview of the Albion Flats Project in regards to the Albion Fairgrounds and Smart Centres. Donald Luxton provided an overview of the draft report on the Spencer Farm Milk House currently located on the Albion Fairgrounds property. The final report will be completed by the end of June. Mr. Luxton explained that structural engineers will be providing recommendations shortly on the structural integrity of the building. 5.2 Donald Luxton -Heritage Plan Update Don Luxton gave an overview of the Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission Heritage Plan. Mr. Luxton explained he was able to structure this plan based on the Maple Ridge Official Community Plan policy format. Chair Craig Speirs would like to see Commission roles identified in the plan. Please note that Steve Ranta left the meeting at 7:58 pm. Lisa Zosiak confirmed that the Open House for this plan is to take place on June 13. Please note Councillor Bob Masse entered the meeting at 8:20 pm. Don Luxton commented he would have the final draft plan ready for the CHC Steering Committees' review by August 23. Please note Don Luxton and Darrell Denton left the meeting at 8:26 pm. 6. New & Unfinished Business 6.1 Cemetery Tour -Michael Cook & Brenda Smith Brenda Smith notified the Commission that Maple Ridge Funeral Home is planning for their upcoming 50th anniversary. 6.2 Heritage Revitalization Agreements Update -Nil Page2 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, June 4, 2013 -Draft 6.3 Port Hammond 130th Birthday -CHC Contribution Cyndy Johnson-McCormick reported on investigating the logistics of the ironworker completing the stanchions in time for the 130th celebration. Lisa Zosiak said it was okay to proceed with the signage for the stanchions, as the hurdles with municipal departments had been cleared. 6.4 Report on James Moore Presentation Craig Speirs gave an overview of the recent presentation by MP, James Moore. Mr. Speirs informed Commission members that the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa will be renamed the Museum of History and the restrictions regarding the archives are going to be loosened to enable a roadshow across Canada of many artifacts in the National Archives. 6.5 CHC Networking Conference -November 2013 Lisa Zosiak reported she spoke with the executive director from Heritage BC and Maple Ridge would be able to host the CHC Networking Conference. Heritage BC clarified that they would handle all promotion, registration and contribute funds for this conference. The Conference would happen on November 30. ~13-021 It was moved and seconded. -) R13-022 That the Community Heritage Commission members agree to host the CHC Networking Conference on November 30, 2013. CARRIED It was moved and seconded. That the Community Heritage Commission strike a Sub-Committee with Commission members Michael Robinsmith, Brenda Smith and Craig Speirs to work directly on the CHC Networking Conference for November 30, 2013. CARRIED 7. Sub-Committee Reports R13-023 7.1 Heritage Plan Lisa Zosiak reported that invitations have gone out for the Heritage Plan open house but asked if Commission would incur the cost of a newspaper ad. It was moved and seconded. That the CHC purchases a ¼ page ad in the newspaper to advertise the Heritage Plan Open House. CARRIED Page3 Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, June 4, 2013 -Draft 7.2 Newsletter Lisa Zosiak reported that Fred Braches has offered to do the layout and printing of the next newsletter. Craig Speirs reported he is working on content pieces to contribute. 7.3 Heritage Awards Brenda Smith reported a meeting has not yet happened. 7.4 Heritage Plaque Program Chair Craig Speirs reported the plaque is underway for Hammond Cedar Mill and that Fred Braches is producing the print copy for these. 7.5 Digitization Project Chair Craig Speirs reported that a positive meeting was had with District staff on this project with a follow up meeting in the Fall. 7.6 Maple Ridge Historical Society Update 7.7 Brenda Smith reported that the floor replacement in the entry of the church is still underway.
