R13-036 It was moved and seconded. That the Agenda for the Regular Meeting of December 3,2013 be ado pted with the following amendment; Add item: Naming of a Park in Hammond – Councillor Bob Masse Add item 5.4 Davison ’s Pool CARRIED ~ "" MAPLE RIDGE C OMMUNITY H ERITAGE C OMMISSION Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, December 3 , 2013 – Draft Page 2 3.Adoption of the November 5 , 2013 Regular Meeting Minutes . R13-037 It was moved and seconded. That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of November 5 , 2013 be adopted. CARRIED 4.Delegations - Nil 5.New & Unfinished Business 5.1 BC Hydro Heritage Wraps – Lisa Lisa Zosiak reported that letters have been sent to the Historical Society and Engineering Department to thank them for their contribution towards the new BC Hydro heritage wraps. 5.2 Maple Ridge Funeral Home 50th Anniversary Craig Speirs reported speaking to Kerry Haynes who he invited to attend a future CHC meeting. Mr. Speirs commented he will compose a letter of congratulations to Maple Ridge Funeral Home on their 50th anniversary. Brenda Smith commented she will follow up and invite Kerry Haynes to a future meeting. Faye Isaac will follow up with Maple Ridge Funeral Home to invite them to attend a future CHC meeting. Please note: Steve Ranta entered the meeting at 7:05 pm. 5.3 Davidson’s Pool/Hot Rocks Faye Isaac recommended Hot Rocks be included on the Heritage Inventory with a long-term goal to get it on the Heritage Register. This can be included on the list for updating the Heritage Inventory in 2015. 5.4 Heritage Revitalization Agreements Update – Nil 5.5 CHC Budget Review - Lisa Lisa Zosiak reviewed the CHC budget to date with Commission members and explained the carry-over totals. Councillor Bob Masse will investigate how much money was rolled over as residual balance from 2012-2013 general and project accounts for CHC. Please note: Commission members chose to discuss another topic at this time. 5.6 Horse Culture in Maple Ridge - Cyndy Brenda Smith recommended assigning the horse culture in Maple Ridge to the heritage awards subcommittee. Craig Speirs will send an invitation to Stephanie James to a future meeting and Cyndy Johnson McCormick will invite the Haney Horsemen to a future meeting with the anticipation to discuss the horse heritage culture. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, December 3 , 2013 – Draft Page 3 6.Sub-C ommittee Reports 6.1 CHC Networking Conference – Report Committee members felt the Conference was well organized and thanked Brenda Smith for all her hard work. Brenda Smith reported she has begun to receive feedback from CHC networking conference attendees. Ms. Smith reported on the value of in-kind donations received and the funds which the conference generated. Ms. Smith reported that the conference will be taking place in Surrey in 2014 and recommended that the walking tour pamphlet which was produced specifically for this conference become a community asset for the Maple Ridge Historical Society. 6.2 Heritage Plan Craig Speirs updated Commission members that the Heritage Plan is on the December 10th Council agenda with a recommendation for Council endorsement. Lisa Zosiak confirmed that Don Luxton’s PowerPoint presentation on the Heritage Plan can be used in future presentations by CHC. A “Heritage Plan Road Show” was asked to be included in the January agenda. 6.3 Newsletter Craig Speirs reported the next newsletter will be coming out in the New Year. Brenda Smith will be submitting a report on the Network Conference to be included in the newsletter. Cyndy Johnson-McCormick will follow-up with community members interested in writing articles for the newsletter. Please forward all articles to Lisa Zosiak before the January meeting. 6.4 Heritage Awards Brenda Smith commented that the heritage awards subcommittee will be meeting sometime in December. 6.5 Heritage Plaque Program Cyndy Johnson-McCormick reported on visiting Tolme Park to investigate a damaged heritage sign and did in fact find a sign which was not included in the inventory. Ms. Johnson-McCormick further reported that that signage inside the plexi-glass needs to be replaced, then the plexi-glass re-sealed. Lisa Zosiak will forward this to the Parks department to follow up on this sign along with city staff about sign cleaning. Commission members suggested setting a specific budget up for signs needing repairs or replacements. Ms. Johnson-McCormick will be providing Ms. Zosiak with a list of 8 various signs in a state which need repair/cleaning. 6.6 Digitization Project - Brenda Smith reported on receiving an answer from Val Bilsberger of the Clerk’s Department regarding the digitization project. Ms. Bilsberger has recommended to prepare a list of series titles, dates of creation, physical description, notes regarding conservation concerns, and scanning concerns. Records under consideration include; taxes, census, demographics, bylaws, & minutes. Lisa Zosiak reported she will know by the January meeting what the cost would be for this preliminary assessment to get this work done. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, December 3 , 2013 – Draft Page 4 6.7 Maple Ridge Historical Society Update Brenda Smith gave an update from the Historical Society which included their recent workshop and they prioritized their work going forward to include; communications, memberships, volunteering, and capital development. The Historical Society feels they will likely need to form task forces and may be coming to the CHC to request participation in some of these task forces. 6.8 Council Liaison Update - Nil Councillor Bob Masse asked for suggestions from commission regarding the park naming in Hammond on Wharf Street. Bob Masse will now be the Council liaison for the Commission through 2014 and Councillor Morden will be the alternate. 7.Roundtable Steve Ranta suggested a plaque for the slide which happened near Billy Minor Pub would be a great idea for future consideration and that future road signs have a heritage theme to them.
