The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Community Heritage Commission,held in the Blaney
Room,at Maple Ridge Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place Road,Maple Ridge, British
Columbia, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

1.Call to order
There being a quorum present, Brenda Smith called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm and
introductions were made.
2.Adoption of the June 3 , 201 4 Agenda.
R14-022 It was moved and seconded.
That the Agenda for the Regular Meeting of June 3 , 201 4 be ado pted .

3.Adoption of the May 6 , 201 4 Regular Meeting Minutes .
R14-023 It was moved and seconded.
That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 1 , 201 4 be adopted.

4.1 Gerry Pinel – GETI (Golden Ears Transition Initiative)

Gerry Pinel of GETI (Golden Ears Transition Initiative)explained that GETI is a
grassroots organization that works to build community involvement.There are
approximately 20 organizations which are associated with GETI to bring
transitional initiatives to Maple Ridge.Food security,waste management health &
wellbeing,arts &craft,and transportation are just a few things which GETI is
involved in.Mr.Pinel further explained the background of how GETI evolved and
possible connections between GETI and the Heritage Committee.

7.Sub-Committee Reports
7.1 Communications Sub-committee
7.1.1 CHC Presence on mapleridge.ca
Brenda Smith is compiling any concerns regarding Commission’s
presence on mapleridge.ca, and asks any suggested changes be sent to
her.
7.1.2 Heritage Here Newsletter
Lisa Zosiak reviewed the deadline for the fall newsletter which will be
August 4, 2014. A sub-committee meeting will occur the first week of
August. Ms. Zosiak will send out an email with confirmations. Brenda
Smith encouraged members to submit items for the fall newsletter.
7.1.3 Project Sub-committee
Brenda Smith reviewed a list of future Commission delegates for meetings
in the fall. Lisa Zosiak stated they are trying to fill a delegation spot for
each meeting. The Maple Ridge Foundation and Katzie have been invited
to future meetings.
7.2 Recognitions Sub-committee
Cyndy Johnson-McCormick updated Commission members regarding the plaque
inventory database and noted new columns including a GPS location have been
added for extra information. Ms. Johnson-McCormick noted there is still more
data which needs to be gathered. CHC is hopeful to have this database available
on the Maple Ridge website in the future. It was noted there are numerous
groups involved with plaques in Maple Ridge.

That Heritage C ommission host a joint meeting to establish plaque standards in
September 2014 with a budgeted cost of $300.

R14-025 It was moved and seconded.
That Heritage Commission set aside $1,000 of its budget for replacement markers.
CARRIED
R14-026 It was moved and seconded.
That Heritage Commission set aside a budget of $5,000 for the Heritage A wards in
February 2015.

8.Liaison Updates
8.1 BC Historical Federation
Brenda Smith reviewed the latest copy of British Columbia History.
8.2 Heritage BC / BC Heritage Branch - Nil
8.3 Maple Ridge Historical Society
Brenda Smith reported that the Historical Society is in the middle of preparations
for their August 10 celebration for the Maple Ridge Museum and Historical
Society. Ms. Smith further noted that Music on the Wharf will be happening July
14, 28 and August 18 & 25. History Goes to the Market will occur again on
September 13 and September 14 is Maple Ridge Funeral Home’s 50th
anniversary family celebration.
8.4 Council Liaison Report - Nil
9.Roundtable
Lisa Zosiak reported that the first Hammond Area Plan public open house will occur on
June 5th at the Hammond Community Centre.
Craig Speirs reported he recently completed an interview with the newspaper regarding
D-Day. The article will be out June 6.
Councillor Bob Masse reported the second meeting on renewing Riverview went very
well and there is much talk about preserving grounds and arboretums.
