Notes from the meeting of the Community Heritage Commission, held in the Blaney Room, at Maple
Ridge Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place Road, Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on Tuesday,
November 4, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

Delegations
Business Plan
Scott Magri and Lina Az.eez -Katzie Slough Restoration Project
Scott Magri and Lina Azeez presented information on the Katzie slough and their
restoration project. Some issues they highlighted related to slough health include:
water quality, quantity and invasive species, pollution, public perception that it's a
ditch; water level being kept too low for fish habitat; it's history has been lost on local

The CHC budget and business plan have been submitted. The General Manager,
Corporate and Financial Services, provided very helpful advice for the 2015 plan.
Heritage Inventory
Donald Luxton provided a cost for the project and this was included in the 2015
Business Plan . If the funding needed for this project is approved by Council, it is
anticipated to be completed in 2016.

Regular Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, November 4, 2014
Council presentation
The Chair appreciated all who were there showing support during the recent
presentation to Council. The Staff Liaison will post the Powerpoint presentation on
the CHC webpage.
Communications
Heritage Newsletter -Fall issue is complete and will be printed and mailed out next
week.
Membership ad -was run twice with the deadline for applications extended to
November 28. Thank you to those who have already expressed interest.
Marker Inventory -still lots of work to do on this project. The Staff Liaison will setup
a meeting with stakeholders in December.
Heritage Awards -The sub-committee has met. Four nominations.
"Welcome to Hammond" sign -replacement sign in the works (December).
Digitization -multi-year project. Anticipate Council minutes on website by 2015.
Local Voices -Program in partnership with Maple Ridge Library gives people who live
in Maple Ridge an opportunity to learn about each other. The talks will be held on
the last Wednesday of each month, January -April.
