The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Community Heritage Commission, held in the Blaney
Room, at Maple Ridge Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place Road, Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on
Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

As quorum was not reached it was decided to begin with Item 4.1.
4. Delegations
4.1 Kanaka Park Fruit Tree Project -Catherine Skoro
Ms. Skoro gave a presentation on the Kanaka Fruit Tree Project. The goal of the
project is to preserve stock from apple and pear trees that were originally grown on
the land owned by Samuel Robertson in the mid-1800s. There are still a number of
trees growing in what is now Kanaka Creek Park. The trees are nearing the end of
their life span but could still be used to propagate new trees. Those working on the
project hope to preserve this part of Maple Ridge's history.
At a future meeting the committee will determine whether there is a role for CHC to
play in this project.

6. Budget
6.1 2015 Business Plan
The Chair reviewed the current Business Plan (2015 -2019). A major project for
2015 is the update of the Heritage Inventory.

6.2 2015 CHC Budget
The Chair and Staff Liaison reviewed the current CHC budget.
7. New & Unfinished Business
7.1 Membership
The Chair provided a review of the CHC structure and membership. This was Michael
Cook's last meeting and he was thanked for his service.
8. Sub-committee Reports

8.1.1 Heritage Here Newsletter
The Chair reviewed the current newsletter.
8.2 Project Sub-committee
8.2.1 Digitization
The Chair provided an update on the status of the digitization project. This
project will be reviewed in the new year.
8.2.2 Local Voices
Speakers are being booked for the upcom ing Local Voices series.
9. Liaison Updates
9.1 BC Historical Federation
The Federation conference will be held in Quesnel this year.
10. Roundtable

Brenda Sm ith informed attendees that the museum will be closed from mid-December on for
Christmas holidays.
Cyndy Johnson-McCormick is looking forward to the new year and working with a new
Council.
Lisa Zosiak thanked those that attended the recent Hammond Open House event and
pointed out the #MyHammond website for anyone looking for more information.
