There being a quorum present, the Chair called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm. AGENDA ADOPTION R15-013 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda for the Regular Meeting of April 7, 2015 be adopted with the addition of: Item 9.0 -Maple Crescent Lodge -Eric Phillips and Item 8.1.3 Intersections -Brenda Smith. CARRIED 3. MINUTE ADOPTION R15-014 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the March 3, 2015 Regular Meeting be adopted. DELEGATIONS 4.1 Fred Braches -Robertson Family Cemetery Mr. Braches made a presentation on the Robertson Family Cemetery located on private property in Whonnock. Robert Robertson came to Canada from Scotland and worked for the Hudson's Bay Company in northern BC before settling in Whonnock. Mr. Braches gave an overview of the history of the property and of the Robertson family members buried in the cemetery. Mr. Braches expressed his hope that the site can be protected. The Staff Liaison provided information on steps required to obtain different designations for the property. Cyndy Johnson-McCormick entered the meeting at 7:07 pm. 5. FINANCE R15-015 5.1 March 18 Meeting with Finance Dept. The Chair reviewed the current budget with the Commission and provided an update from the March 18th meeting with Catherine Nolan, Manager of Accounting. The timing of budget approvals was discussed. It was moved and seconded That the Budget be approved as presented. CARRIED 6. CORRESPONDENCE -Nil 7. R15-016 NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS It was decided to deal with Item 7.3 Robertson Family Cemetery as the first item of New & Unfinished Business. 7.3 Robertson Family Cemetery It was moved and seconded That it be recommended to Council that the Robertson Burial Site be established as a place of interment. CARRIED 7.1 Membership 7.1.1 Calendar The Chair reviewed the information contained in the Commission calendar. The Membership list was reviewed. The Committee Clerk will update and redistribute the membership list. 7.2 CHC Update to Council -March 24, 2015 7.4 The presentation went well. Format ideas for future presentations were discussed. St. Andrew's Heritage Church The Staff Liaison updated the Commission on the issue regarding the property lines of the St. Andrew's Church. Darrell Denton, Property and Risk Manager, will attend the May CHC meeting to offer potential solutions. Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 2 of 4 . SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS 8.1 Communications Sub-committee 8.1.1 Heritage Here Newsletter The next edition of the newsletter will be published at the end of April and will advertise events during May, June and the summer. The submission deadline is April 15th. An automatic subscription service (Notify Me) is now available for the newsletter through the mapledridge.ca website. Instructions for subscribing were provided. The Committee Clerk will provide the current number of subscribers at the next meeting and edit the website link to reflect the "Heritage Here" name of the newsletter. 8.1.2 GET/Fest 2015 GET/Fest 2015 will be on Saturday September 19th . The festival is put on in conjunction with the Farmers Market and will focus on a Main Street theme. Organizers have asked the CHC to participate. Corry Kouwenberg is the GET/Fest 2015 Volunteer Coordinator and will be invited to meet with CHC in the near future. 8.1.3 Intersections The planning of this networking event is currently on hold. 8.2 Recognitions Sub-committee 8.2.1 Marker Inventory A contract has been signed for the design of the Marker Inventory database. A meeting has been scheduled for April 28th for stakeholders (including representatives from Engineering, Parks, the Historical Society, and the Public Art Steering Committee) and the database developer. The Staff Liaison will forward a copy of the invitation to CHC members. Fall is the timeline for delivery of the database. 8.2.2 Heritage Awards Heritage Awards nominations for next year were discussed. 8.2.2.1 History The History of the Heritage Awards is nearing completion. The Chair asked members to bring ideas for how to present this information to the next meeting. 8.3 Project Sub-committee Brenda Smith updated the Commission on the digitization project. The idea of hiring a contractor to work on this project was discussed. The Digitization sub-committee will meet in April or May to move this project forward. 8.4 Education Sub-committee Sandra Ayres is working on a concept for a project on the Maple Ridge archives. LIAISON UPDATES 10. 9.0 Maple Crescent Lodge Eric Phillips expressed his hope that the Maple Crescent Lodge building can be preserved. The Staff Liaison encouraged Mr. Phillips to gather more information on the planned demolition. 9.1 BC Historical Federation The Chair is writing a report to be presented by CHC at the Annual General Meeting of the BC Historical Federation. 9.2 Heritage BC/BC Heritage Branch The Chair and the President of the BC Heritage Branch will both be attending an upcoming event. The Chair asked the Staff Liaison to provide suggestions for possible discussion. 9.3 Maple Ridge Historical Society The Annual General Meeting in March went well. The Heritage Tea is this Saturday. 9.4 Council Liaison -Nil COMMUNITY FORUM Erica Williams requested an invitation to the upcoming meeting on the marker inventory database. Cyndy Johnson-McCormick left the meeting at 9:02 pm. 11. ROUNDTABLE Eric Phillips recently attended a cowboy heritage event and found some interesting information. 12.
