CALL TO ORDER 2. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2021-011 It was moved and seconded That the agenda for the May 13, 2021 Community Heritage Commission meeting be approved as circulated. CARRIED 3. ADOPTION OF MINUTES R/2021-012 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission for January 14, 2021 be adopted. CARRIED R/2021-013 It was moved and seconded That the special minutes of the Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission for April 22, 2021 be adopted. CARRIED 4. DELEGATIONS – NIL Community Heritage Commission Minutes May 13, 2021 Page 2 of 4 5. QUESTION PERIOD – NIL 6. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1 Anti-Discrimination Policy The Staff Liaison noted that the Anti-Discrimination HR policy applies to all employees and volunteers working for the City of Maple Ridge and is to be reviewed and acknowledged by the Committee 6.2 Respectful Workplace Policy The Staff Liaison noted that the Respectful Workplace HR policy applies to all employees and volunteers working for the City of Maple Ridge and is to be reviewed and acknowledged by the Committee. 6.3 Tolmie Park Sign Replacement The Staff Liaison reminded the Commission of the previous discussion to recreate and install the Tolmie Park Sign at the last meeting. Discussion followed on the replacement quote and proposed design. R/2021-014 It was moved and seconded That the Community Heritage Commission allocate a budget of $595.00 plus tax for the Tolmie Park Sign Replacement. CARRIED 6.4 Haney Brick & Tile Company Plaque The Staff Liaison provided an update on the Haney Brick & Tile Company brass plaque that was stolen outside the Haney Museum and asked for the Commission’s feedback on plaque replacement. Discussion followed about exploring different materials for the plaque and what other municipalities are doing to prevent future theft. It was noted that Romana Osborne and Julie Koehn will research options on how to prevent plaque theft and report back to Commission. 6.5 BC Historical Federation 2021 Conference The Commission discussed the upcoming BC Historical Federation Conference that will be held via Zoom and interest for members to attend. It was agreed that Julie Koehn and Romana Osborne will attend the Conference and provide an update at the next meeting. R/2021-015 It was moved and seconded That the Community Heritage Commission approve $100.00 for Julie Koehn and Romana Osborne to attend the virtual BC Historical Federation 2021 Conference. CARRIED Note Eric Phillips joined at 7:26 pm Community Heritage Commission Minutes May 13, 2021 Page 3 of 4 6.6 CHC Business Plan The Staff Liaison reminded the Commission of the 2022 business planning timeline which will be reviewed by Council in fall 2021. The Chair asked members to email their feedback on the draft work plan initiatives to Staff Liaison for future discussion. 7. LIASION UPDATES 7.1 Maple Ridge Historical Society J. Koehn advised that due to COVID-19 the Museum is now open on specific days and hours. 7.2 Staff Liaison The Staff Liaison advised that the Chair provided a presentation to Mayor and Council on the Commission’s initiatives on April 27, 2021. CARRIED 7.3 Council Liaison Councillor Svendsen discussed the history of the Port Haney Wharf and ideas for future improvement. 8. TASK FORCE UPDATES 8.1 Heritage Incentive Planning The Staff Liaison advised that the Heritage Incentive Planning Task Force met to discuss incentives and explored different options for funding. The Task Force will schedule another meeting and provide an update at the next meeting. 8.2 Heritage Plan The Staff Liaison announced that at the April 22, 2021 special CHC meeting, Donald Luxton and Associates Inc was awarded the contract for the Maple Ridge Heritage Plan Review and the Heritage Plan Task Force will be meeting with the consultant to discuss next steps as well as possible public engagement opportunities. Community Heritage Commission Minutes May 13, 2021 Page 4 of 4 9. ROUNDTABLE The Commission discussed the historic Caboose on the Maple Ridge Museum grounds which needs repair. The Chair reminded members on the current mandate set out in the Commission’s Terms of Reference to advise Council on various heritage matters as they are referred to it. /sc 10.
