CALL TO ORDER – 6:03 pm 1.1 Land Acknowledgment E. Markillie, Acting Chair, called the meeting to order and provided the land acknowledgement. R/2023-EDC-007 It was moved and seconded That Elliot Markillie be appointed as Acting Chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee for the May 31, 2023 regular meeting. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 2. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2023-EDC-008 It was moved and seconded That the May 31, 2023 Economic Development Advisory Committee agenda be approved as circulated. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3. ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2023-EDC-009 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the March 9, 2023 Economic Development Advisory Committee regular meeting be adopted. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS Note: Councillor Dozie joined the meeting at 6:12 pm. 5.1. Film Policy Workshop T. Westover, Staff Liaison, provided an overview of the Film Policy. D. McGowan, Filming Coordinator, presented an overview of the Maple Ridge film industry. Topics included: 2022 statistics, notable productions in Maple Ridge, activities underway, and community collaboration and engagement opportunities. City staff led a Film Policy Review Workshop with Committee members. Topics of discussion included: policy flexibility, competitiveness in the film industry as a top priority, and community engagement to garner interest in the film industry. Committee members provided recommendations and feedback. 6. LIAISON UPDATES 6.1. Staff Liaison T. Westover provided an update on the following: • Tourism Campaign. • Partnership with WorkBC Job & Career Fair on June 1, 2023. • YouthTank event for youth entrepreneurship on June 10, 2023. • Partnership with Celebrating Women in Business event on October 19, 2023. 6.2. Council Liaison Councillor Dozie provided an update on the following: • Opportunities for economic development through the 2024 BC Summer Games and Maple Ridge 150. 7. TASK FORCE UPDATES – NIL 8. QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC – NIL 9. ROUNDTABLE Committee members shared relevant information about activities and events related to economic development. 10. Economic Development Summit Workshop T. Westover, Staff Liaison, provided an overview of the Economic Development Summit. Topics included: purpose, date, location, time, draft program, draft agenda, panelists, booth showcase, and the role of EDC members. City staff led an event planning workshop with Committee members. Topics of discussion included: feedback about the draft program, questions for the panelists, showcase organizations, and EDC member roles. Committee members provided recommendations and feedback. 3.
