The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Environmental Advisory Committee, held in the Council
Chambers, at Maple Ridge City Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on

1. CALL TO ORDER AND INTRODUCTIONS
There being a quorum present, the Chair called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm and
introductions were made.

4. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS
4.1 EAC Update on 2017 EAC Business Planning Processes & Procedures
The Chair provided an update on work planning for 2017.
4.2 EMS Short Term High Priority Implementation Recommendations and
Brief Overview of Next Steps

The Staff Liaison provided an overview of the information provided so far to EAC. The
Staff Liaison and the Manager of Legislative Services led a review of proposed short
term high priority implementation recommendations from the Environmental
Management Strategy. It was suggested that School Distri ct 42 be invited to
participate on the Committee.
It was moved and seconded
That the Staff Liaison be directed to prepare a report for Council's consideration and
endorsement of the Environmental Advisory Committee recommended
Environmental Management Strategy short term high priority implementation
recommendations to commence over the next several years, beginning in 2017.

4.3 Advisory Committee Training & Networking
The Committee Clerk shared information on upcoming events for Advisory Committee
members.
5. CORRESPONDENCE
5.1 Update and Feedback on Soils Management Bylaw
Th e Staff Liaison reported on the status of the Soils Management Bylaw review. It
was suggested that Planner Mike Pym be invited to make a presentation to a future
meeting.
5.2 Provincial Updates on Aquifer Mapping
TAPS has been working with the province around aquifer mapping.
6. ROUNDTABLE
6.1 TAPS Presentation -Aquifer Mapping
Betty and Klaus von Hardenberg provided information on the formation of and work
done by the Thornhill Aquifer Protection Study group. Informat ion on aquifer
mapping was provided.

Dennis Kinsey shared that Cinema Politica will be hosting a showing of "A Plastic Ocean" on
March 23.
Kim Day reported the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society and the City of Maple Ridge have
partnered to provide bear-resistant bins, solar cones and rain barrels
(http://rmrecycling.org/community/environmental-programs). Ms. Day shared details about
the upcoming brush chipping program (http://rmrecycling.org/community/environmental-
programs/spring-fa ll-brush-ch ipping-program )
Councillor Masse reported LEED certification for new civic facilities was discussed at a recent
Workshop meeting. BC Hydro recently made a presentation on electric vehicles to the Metro
Vancouver Environmental Advisory Committee.
Ken Stewart reported the first annual Alouette River Management Society fundraiser will be
held on April 27 at the Ranch Pub and Grill (www.alouetteriver.org/news/arms-1st-fundraiser).
Mr. Stewart has tickets available for sale.
Rodney Stott reported on his schedule for the next couple of months.
Laurie Darcus congratulated the group on selecting priorities for the year.
Leanne Koehn shared Earth Day posters and provided information on events leading up to
Earth Day. Ms. Koehn reminded the group the next EAC meeting is in May.
Gerry Pinel reported GETIFest 2017 will be held in September and the theme is
sustainability. Mr. Pine! invited the group to consider getting involved with GETIFest
planning. Mr. Pine! shared some of his experiences working on a tiny home and dealing with
municipal bylaws. It was suggested that Mr. Pinel make a presentation to Council on tiny
homes.
David Neufeld is happy with the progress made by the group and enjoyed the TAPS
presentation.
Ross Davies thanked Klaus and Betty von Hardenberg for speaking for the water and raising
awareness. Mr. Davies shared the first few signs of spring that he has noticed recently.
Janice Jarvis reported the grand opening of the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre
is scheduled for April 30th . Ms. Jarvis shared some background of the Centre.
The Committee Clerk provided a membership update.
7. QUESTION PERIOD
Nick Pochailo shared his thoughts on the EAC priorities.

It was moved and seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:49 pm.
