MINUTES
December 15, 2010
Agenda for the meeting of the Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee to be held on
December 15 at 3:00 PM in the Conference Room at the ACT, 11944 Haney Place,
Maple Ridge

100 CALL TO ORDER
Kristin Krimmel, as Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:10pm.
200 APPROVAL OF AGENDA
It was moved and seconded that
The Agenda for the meeting of December 15, 2010 be approved with the addition of Item
400 as Matters Arising from Previous Minutes.

300 ADOPTION OF NOVEMBER 24 MINUTES
It was moved and seconded that
Minutes of the November 24 meeting be adopted as written.

400 MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 24 MEETING
4.1 224th and Lougheed project
Lindy asked if anyone had heard of further developments regarding the legal agreement for the
224th & Lougheed site. None of those present had further news.
4.2 Council Committee Report
Judy Dueck announced that Craig Speirs would be replacing her in the Councillor’s position with
the Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee, but that she would attend meetings as
necessary to ensure a smooth transition. The committee thanked Judy for her strong
contribution to their work which was especially helpful in its inaugural year.

500 NECKLACE PROJECT
501 Transfer of Title
Barb advised that as 30 days had passed since the Transfer of Title document had been
submitted by the artists, the title for the sculpture was officially transferred to the District as of
15 December 2010.
502 Timing of sculpture light
Lindy commented that the light seemed in the sculpture needed to be adjusted to come on
earlier in the evening. Barb responded that she would contact the artists to see what steps
should be taken to adjust the lighting sequence.
600 LIONS EAGLE
It was moved and seconded
That the designated site between the RCMP and the main entrance to the DMR should be
confirmed as the site for the Lions Eagle, providing the installation of a plinth to replace
the brick surface did not cost more than $1000.
AND THAT Lions President Ray Morrissette should be instructed that no formal
announcement should be made regarding the site until costs had been confirmed.
CARRIED
Action: Barb to seek advice from Shelley Jorde and Mike Millward as to how to proceed with
obtaining an estimate for the sculpture plinth.
700 POLICY and PROCEDURES REVIEW
Lindy facilitated a discussion of her latest draft of the policy/procedures document, noting
amendments as necessary.
The committee requested a statement from the DMR for the policy document regarding
1. The District’s existing policy (if any) regarding donations of art
2. How funds from the committee’s budget could be transferred to the following year
The committee also needed to establish within its policy a mechanism to ensure that funding
was made available for the longer-term conservation of the District’s public art collection.
The committee thanked Lindy for adding considerable clarification to the structure of the
document.
800 ADJOURNMENT & DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The meeting was adjourned and the date of the next meeting was confirmed as
Wednesday December 19 at 3pm.
