MAPLE RIDGE PUBLIC ART STEERING COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee (MRPASC),
held in the Blaney Room, Maple Ridge City Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, British Columbia,
on Thursday March 19, 2014 at 3:00 pm.

1. Call to Order
There being no quorum present, the committee moved to item 4.4 at this time.
Please note: Barbara Duncan joined the meeting at 3:16 pm.
There being a quorum, Susan Hayes called the meeting to order at 3:16 pm.
2. Approval of March 19, 2014 Agenda
R14-001 It was moved and seconded.
That the Agenda dated March 19, 2014 be adopted.

3. Approval of the January 16, 2014 Meeting Minutes
R14-002 It was moved and seconded.
That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 16, 2014 be adopted.

4. Unfinished & New Business
4.1 Maintenance & Inventory
Yvonne Chui reported out on quotes received regarding maintenance of the Cemetery
Gates. Ms. Chui stated that Colin Southwell has recommended a company called West
Coast Metal Finishes. The owner, Terry Mullis inspected the gates and reported they are
in fair condition if treated now. The quote received includes removal, refinishing and
reinstallation of the gates for $2,235 plus tax.
R14-003 It was moved and seconded.
That the Committee approves the quote provided to remove, repair and re-install
the Cemetery Gates.

Ms. Chui further reported on a quote from a painting restorer (conservator Nadine
Power) regarding the Maple Leaf art. The quote is for $3,000, but after restoration the
piece must be moved indoor permanently. Ms. Chui is trying to locate a suitable location.
It was decided that further discussion on restoration be deferred until a future date
when more committee members can be present.
4.2 Artist in Residence Program & Temporary / Community Art Projects
Yvonne Chui reported that Kat Wahamaa has been the artist selected. Ms. Wahamaa is
a singer, song writer who has done many projects with arts centres and cultural
organizations and comes well recommended. Ms. Wahamaa will start moving in at the
end of the month with Earth Day being the beginning of her residency.
Ms. Chui further stated that 2 other calls are also in progress for the Fern Crescent and
Osprey Village storefront Artists in Residences.
4.3 Program Admin & Planning – Intersections Project
Yvonne Chui explained the scope of the Intersections event which is set for April 9 at
6:30 pm in The ACT lobby. The goal of this event is to have a meet and greet social with
opportunities for participants to get a sense of what other organizations/committees of
council are working on. Action items will be displayed from each group’s business plans,
giving groups opportunities to discuss and look for possible linkages to collaborate on
future projects. Kristen Krimmel will attend on behalf of the Committee and the rest of
the members were encouraged to attend pending availability.

That the Committee agrees to spend $100 to attend the Intersections event at
The ACT on April 9, 2014.

4.4 Work Plan Development – Plan for Public Art 2014-2018
Lynne Werker worked with committee members on next steps for the work plan for
Public Art 2014-2018. Members were tasked to complete the spreadsheet identifying

public art opportunities that was circulated earlier by Ms. Chui, specifically on identifying
opportunities, themes etc. and three keys words that can be used in prioritizing and
establishing criteria to guide what and why the Committee is selecting a particular
site/project. Ms. Chui will compile everyone’s data; data is due to Ms. Chui by March.
