Agenda Approval R12-023 Motion was moved and seconded That the Agenda for September 5, 2012 be adopted. R12-024 Minutes of May 2, 2012 Meeting Motion was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 6, 2012 be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations & Presentations ,(12-025 4.1 Compassionate Cities Presentation -Marika Sandrelli Marika Sandrelli gave a presentation to the Committee regarding the "Campaign for Compassionate Cities, Start a Campaign in Your City". Marika Sandrelli explained that the process does take coordinated efforts and a few designated champions to lead the coordination in becoming a "Compassionate City". Ms. Sandrelli noted that the next steps would be to gather a small group of interested parties to look at what is already being done in our community and how we can enhance or leverage that work. Sue Wheeler advised that the Committee could consider this project in the 2013 Business Planning discussion. Motion was moved and seconded That staff prepare a summary report about the Compassionate Cities Initiative to prepare Committee for the October Business Planning discussion. CARRIED Please note that Marika Sandrelli left the meeting at 8:11 p.m. 5. New Business R12-026 5.1 CARBC Email -Study Finds Increase in BC Overdose Hospitalizations Sue Wheeler reviewed the email from the Centre for Addictions Research of BC (CARBC) regarding the study that has found an increase in BC Overdose Hospitalizations noting that there is a need to do more education in our Province around the effects of alcohol and aim it at youth in high risk populations. Motion was moved and seconded That this topic be forwarded to the Substance Misuse Prevention Committee for discussion and recommendation to SPAC. CARRIED Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page 2 of 4 Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes September 5, 2012 5.2 Social Issues discussion directed from Council Workshop Meeting (August 27, 2012) Sue Wheeler provided a review of the discussion regarding social issues that came up at the Council Workshop Meeting of August 27, 2012 with the Committee. Ms. Wheeler noted that an initial meeting has been set up with community representatives and a process will take place to engage a broader community (organizations, businesses, residents) to create a planning process to integrate all sectors of the community. R12-027 Motion was moved and seconded ) That Arlana Kuzyk be appointed to the planning table regarding the social issues within our community. And that a request be sent to the Community Network to appoint one of their members to the planning table. CARRIED 5.3 Research on the Privatization of the BC Liquor Distribution Branch -deferred. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 6.2 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie Community Network Update Candace Gordon provided an update on the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie Community Network. Port Haney Neighbourhood Change Initiative Update Sue Wheeler provided an update on the Port Haney Neighbourhood Change and noted that this Sunday, September 9th is the Port Haney Days between Noon -4pm at Haney House. 7. Roundtable -deferred 8.
