REGULAR MEETING
The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Social Planning Advisory Committee, held in the Blaney
Room, at Maple Ridge Municipal Hall on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 7:00 pm.

1. Call to Order and Introductions
Chair Bob Goos called the meeting to order at 8:49 pm.
2. Approval of the October 2, 2013 Agenda

That the Agenda of the Regular Meeting of September 4, 2013 be adopted.

5. New Business
5.1 Report on the Vibrant Downtown Task Force Recommendations
The report was submitted to the Committee for review. There were a number of
recommendations made by the Task Force. They fell under the categories of:
Information, Community Building, Environment and Sustainability. Some of the more
specific recommendations involve: Shawn reported on the recommendations from
the VDTF which include:
• Engagement of businesses and community social service providers
• Lighting
• Engineering
• Signage
• Traffic control
• Safety

That the Vibrant Downtown Task Force recommendations be accepted and forwarded on to
council.

5.2 Business Plan Review
Shawn Matthewson reviewed the proposed changes to the SPAC business plan.
5.3 Homelessness Action Week Events
Shawn Matthewson reviewed the events happening during homelessness action
week which include:
• Health and Wellness Day – October 15
• Maple Ridge’s Got Talent- October 16
• Cinema Politico Film- October 17
• World Food Day Lunch at the SCT- October 18
5 Unfinished Business
6.1 Update on CRHC presentation
Mayor Wayne Wright of New Westminster will be making a presentation about the
Charter at the November Meeting. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers to
permit additional members in the audience and filming.
7 Committee Reports
7.1 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katie Community Network Update
8 Roundtable
Arlana reviewed Fraser Health’s launch of the South Asian Institute. An initiative designed to
better understand the health needs of the South Asian population and support the
implementation of evidence-informed programs to enable patients and their health care
providers manage chronic conditions.
