4.1 Disability Games Legacy Funds
Chum Richardson advised the Committee that the Disability Games Legacy Fund has
a grant offer to reprint 100 copies of the Outdoor Design Guidelines booklet however
in order to do so MACAI needs to submit a grant application.
Shelley Jorde reviewed the criteria of the grant with the committee which included;
benefits both communities, brings awareness to abilities, creates a legacy in arts or
sports, long term benefits, and addresses an immediate need. Ms. Jorde then
reviewed the requirements that need to be fulfilled; describe our organization,
benefits and costs, other supporters from the organizations attesting to the need and
benefit. Shelley Jorde also noted that MACAI would need to commit some funding to
th is project.
Mike Huber suggested that MACAI partner with another organization who has
representation at the MACAI meetings and have the proposal got through their
society on behalf of the committee.

5.4 Paralympics Torch Relay, March 10, 2010
Greg Turnbull provided an update on the Paralympics Torch Relay which will be held
on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 between 6:30-8:00 p.m . Mr. Turnbull noted that
there will be thirty torch bearers and the theme is "See a Spark Become a Flame".
The Committee discussed volunteer opportunities for this event.
Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that the Paralympics Torch Relay Committee
applied for a grant to the provincial government and are waiting to hear back from
that.
Shelley Jorde advised that there is currently no representation from the School Board
on the Paralympics but will put a request forward at their next meeting.
Amelia Bowden advised that not all torch bearers will be from Maple Ridge and Pitt
Meadows however there will be 5 from our local communities and then VAN0C will
arrange that people will run as close to their residing communities as possible.
Volunteer opportunities will be advertised after February 8th, 2010.
Mike Huber noted that it would be a good idea to have a Paralympic Torch Relay
committee member make a small presentation to the Publ ic School Board meeting
noting that there would be incredible opportunities for the school.

Mike Huber noted that it would be a great idea to have something that would work in
