Call to Order and Introductions There being a quorum present, the Chair called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. 1.1 Election of Chair & Vice-Chair Amelia Bowden called for nominations of the Chair and John Kanjer nominated Greg Turnbull who accepted the nomination and Lois Rougeau seconded the nomination. Amelia Bowden called for nominations for the role of Vice-Chair and John Kanjer nominated Manfred Wuensche who accepted the nomination and Greg Turnbull seconded the nomination. R10-004 It was moved and seconded That Greg Turnbull be appointed as the Chair and Manfred Wuensche as the Vice- Chair to the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues for the 2010 term. CARRIED 2. Adoption of the Agenda R10-005 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda dated February 18, 2010 be adopted with the following amendments: • Add Item 5.6 SAFERHome presentation to City of Pitt Meadows Council • Add Item 5.7 Resting areas at shopping centres CARRIED 3. Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting R10-006 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the January 28, 2010 Regular Meeting be adopted with the following amendment; That the January 28th, 2010 meeting started at 4:45 p.m. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations Please note that Item 4.1 was dealt with prior to Item 1 through Item 3 4.1 Parks Master Plan -Mike Murray Mike Murray presented the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan to the Committee. 5. Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Risk Management Sidewalk -yellow tactile curb let down Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that she met with Michael Eng, Bernie Searle from Operations, Shayna Funk-Lamour and the pedestrian who filed the complaint to review the surfacing where the accident took place. Ms. Bowden noted that the surfacing is different from 210th and Wicklund however both are up to the Universal Design standards. Ms. Bowden also noted that the pedestrian expressed that they preferred the surfacing that is located at Wicklund and 210th and we'll take this into consideration with new surfacing. Manfred Wuensche advised the Committee that he sent a list of approved manufacturers to Michael Eng in Engineering. Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that she will set up a time with those Committee members that are available to go and view the different options of surfacing. 5.2 Accessible Equipment at the Leisure Centre Greg Turnbull provided an update on the accessible equipment at the Leisure Centre and noted that Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion Foundation (RHWIMF) has been put in touch with people at the University of Toronto that are researching adaptability. Mr. Turnbull also noted that he has received a grant application form from the RHWIMF for additional grants. Greg Turnbull provided information on what the SCIFIT machine is. 5.3 Maple Ridge Bus Stop Improvements R10-007 Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that the Engineering Department is looking for feedback from MACAI with regards to prioritizing those bus stops that need improvements to make them accessible. Greg Turnbull suggested the Committee form a Transportation Sub-Committee to review bus stop improvements and curb cuts. The Commission agreed to create two separate sub-committees; one for bus stop improvements and one for curb cut improvements. Lois Rougeau advised the Commission that she will be retiring in November and that will be her last MACAI meeting. ACTION ITEM: Amelia Bowden to email Chum Richardson the bus stop spreadsheets. It was moved and seconded That a bus stop improvement sub committee is formed that will consist of Lois Rougeau and Greg Turnbull. And that a curb cut improvement sub committee is formed that will consist of John Kanjer working with the Engineering Department. Mr. Kanjer is to then report back to the Committee with updates. CARRIED 5.4 Annual Accessibility Awards Amelia Bowden provided an update on the Annual Accessibility Awards and noted that she will provide the budget information at the next meeting. 5.5 Accessible Outdoor Design Guidelines book distribution Greg Turnbull advised the Commission that there are 140 books that need to be managed. Amelia Bowden advised that she has provided the new committee members with copies of the book. Greg Turnbull provided background information on the creation of the book. Danielle Foulds agreed to be in charge of the booklet inventory. Mr. Turnbull noted that if there are any events that are going on in the community, this would be a good avenue to distribute this book. 5.6 SAFERHome Society presentation to Pitt Meadows Amelia Bowden advised the Commission that on Tuesday, March 2nd Patrick Simpson from the SAFERHome Society will be making the presentation to Pitt Meadows Council due to the recommendation made from MACAI at our last meeting. Ms. Bowden noted that if anyone is interested in attending this presentation they can do so. 5. 7 Rest areas @ shopping centre The Committee reviewed the email from Lorne Riding with regards to resting areas at shopping centres. John Kanjer asked that Mr. Riding be invited to the next MACAI meeting to discuss this issue further. John Kanjer noted that Mr. Riding is a member of the board for the Ridge Meadows Association for Community Living. ACTION ITEM: Staff Liaison will invite Lorne Riding to the next MACAI meeting. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Curb Cuts Report This item was dealt with under Item 5.3 6.2 Access Transit -review of transit maps -deferred 7. Correspondence 8.
