Amelia Bowden provided an update on the Age Friendly Cities Forum and reviewed
the timeline and background for how the Age Friendly Cities Steering Committee was
established. Ms. Bowden then reviewed the goals and objectives that were included
in the final report that addresses the diverse needs and abilities of ou r citizens. Ms.
Bowden also noted that the steering Committee needs to seek greater clarity on age
related barriers and explore opportunities for new partnerships.
Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that a grant application was completed for an
outdoor Gym at Hoffman Park.
Shelley Jorde provided some further information on how the Age Friendly Cities
Forum committee was formed. Ms. Jorde noted that because the Age Friendly Cities
Steering Committee went through this process and it allowed us to apply for 2nd
phase funding for the outdoor or green gym at Hoffman Park, however that
application was denied.
Shelley Jorde recommended that MACAI make a presentation to the Senior's
Network.
Councillor Hogarth advised the Committee that the Senior's Network does not
currently have council representation and noted that this should be explored further.
Shelley Jorde noted that it would be beneficial to have a voice from this (MACAI)
committee at the Senior's Network table.

The Committee then discussed the process for following up on recommendations
that come from MACAI and those that go forward to Council and who would be
responsible for making changes.
Shelley Jorde advised the Committee that there are 35 networks that sit at the
Senior's Network Table that deal with seniors issues (some are businesses).
Amelia Bowden suggested that Greg Turnbull attend the next Seniors Network
meeting and talk about what MACAI is focusing on and how that relates to Age
Friendly Initiatives.
The Committee then discussed the timing of audible signals and decided that the
audible signals should be activated to coincide with the visual signals at
intersections.

The Committee discussed the two options and looked at examples of each type of
joint.
John Ricketts advised the Committee that after seeing examples of both joints he
would like the Committee to reconsider it's previous decision to recommend that the
sawcutjoints would be the most accessible solution for this project.
John Ricketts reviewed the process of using the narrow trowel with the Committee
and noted that if the sawcut joint is used the contractor would have to complete a
wet cut and then the next day there would be a lot of clean up and noise which raises
concerns from the contractor's perspective.
Amelia Bowden noted that the end result of both joints is very similar and you
wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
It was moved and seconded
That staff report to the Engineering Department that narrow trowel cuts, as indicated
by the contractor, be used for the Downtown Rehabilitation Project.

Amelia Bowden advised the Committee that the sub committee had 3 or 4 members
that met on Tuesday, May 18th to review all the nomination and it would have been
helpful to have all the information when that deliberating took place.
