Adoption of the Agenda R10-022 It was moved and seconded Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 1 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues November 18, 2010 That the Agenda dated November 25, 2010 be adopted with the following amendments; • Defer Item 5.4 • Add Item 5.7 Seniors Centre in Pitt Meadows -proposal • Add Item 5.8 MR/PM Lion's Event for individuals with visual impairment-MACAI Invitation to participate CARRIED 3. Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting R10-023 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the October 21, 2010 Regular Meeting be adopted as presented. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations Petra Frederick advised that Brad Sharpe will not be interested in making a presentation on accessible fuel stops and also noted that if MACAI wishes to move forward with this that they can. ACTION ITEM: Add "Accessible Fuel Stops" to the January agenda. 5. Unfinished & New Business Please note that Item 5. 7 was dealt with prior to Items 5.1 through 5.6 5.1 Life Trail Advanced Wellness System -pictures from park in Port Coquitlam Petra Frederick provided an update on the outdoor accessible playground equipment and showed some pictures of equipment that is located at a park in Port Coquitlam. The Committee discussed funding and grant options for updating a current park with outdoor accessible playground equipment and noted that staff should be in touch with Bruce McLeod who is working on the draft Harris Road Park Master Plan. 5.2 Public request for parking on Lougheed and 224th John Ricketts provided some background on the public request for parking on Lougheed and 224th. Mr. Rickets provided an update on this matter The Committee agreed to form a sub-committee consisting of; John Ricketts, Joylene MacBurnie, Petra Frederick and Shelley Jorde to review parking standards and accessibility issues within the workplace. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues November 18, 2010 5.3 Accessible Bus Stop (Samuel Robertson Technical School) -defer to January 2011 5.4 Trial Accessible bus Stop -defer to January 2011 5.5 Bonson and Harris Road trail access Petra Frederick advised that Metro Vancouver brought in their own auditors to review the access trails at Bonson and Harris Road parks and noted that there is currently no timeline for when this work is going to be completed however the issues have been identified. 5. 6 School District 42 request for delegation Petra Frederick advised that we are going to work with SPAC to confirm a date that both Committees are available to make a presentation to the School District 42. Please note that Item 5. 7 was dealt with prior to Items 5.1 through 5.6 5. 7 Seniors Centre in Pitt Meadows -proposal Shelley Jorde advised the Committee that in the event the project was to proceed, Staff would look at feedback provided by MACAI. Petra Frederick reviewed the proposed plans for the Seniors Centre and asked for feedback from the Committee. Suggestions from MACAI: • Consider an infrared system that would enable assistance for the hearing challenged. • Consider automating the front entrance. • Consider opportunities for green initiatives (LED lights, automated lighting system) • Consider a modular approach to the building. • Consider a storage room where table and chairs can be accessed easily. 5.8 MR/ PM Lion's Event -Invitation to MACAI to participate Petra Frederick advised that the Ridge Meadows Senior's Centre will be hosting an event through the MR/ PM Lion's for individuals with visual impairment on March 12, 2011. Ms. Frederick noted that they would like a display board available that explains what MACAI does and the services that are offered. ACTION ITEM: Add "BC Lion 's Event" to the January 2011 agenda. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Universal Design Guideline for Outdoor Spaces (UDGOS) Inventory Update 6.2 6.3 Petra Frederick advised the Committee that a request has come forward inquiring what the cost would be for a reprint of the Universal Design Guideline for Outdoor Spaces document. Bus Stop Top 20 Status Curb Cuts Update Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 3 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues November 18, 2010 John Ricketts provided an update on curb cuts, specifically the ones identified by Maria Kovacs and that he has been in contact with Michael Eng in the Engineering Department with regards to these particular spots. 7. Roundtable John Ricketts; reminded people to keep their driveways and sidewalks clear of snow. 8. Correspondence 9.
