Adoption of the Agenda R11-001 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda dated January 20, 2011 be adopted with the following amendments; Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 1 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues January 20, 2011 • Defer Items 1.1 and 5.1 • Item 5.4 will be covered under Item 5.3 CARRIED 3. Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting R11-002 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the November 18, 2010 Regular Meeting be adopted with the following amendment; The header should read "November 18, 2010" CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations -Nil 5. Unfinished & New Business Please note that Item 5. 7 was dealt with prior to Items 5.1 through 5.6 5.1 Life Trail Advanced Wellness System -pictures from park in Port Coquitlam -defer 5.2 Public request for parking on Lougheed and 224th John Ricketts provided an update on the public request for parking on Lougheed and 224th. Mr. Ricketts noted that he will provide another update once he has met with staff and the individual who made the request. Mr. Ricketts advised the Committee that he completed a site visit to the place of business. Shelley Jorde advised that more information is required before the Bylaw Department can look at this request. 5.3 Accessible Bus Stop (Samuel Robertson Technical School) Councillor Hogarth provided some background history on the Trial Accessible Bus Stop that the Engineering Department has proposed to pilot. Staff will report back to the Committee once they have received an update from the Engineering Department. 5.4 Trial Accessible bus Stop Please note that this Item was covered under Item 5.3 5.5 School District 42 request for delegation -review of presentation Greg Turnbull provided a review of the presentation that he and Manfred Wuensche made to the School District No. 42 Board. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of 4 ) ____/ Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues January 20, 2011 Mike Huber noted the importance of staying connected and requested that the Committee continue to provide annual updates to the School Board. ACTION ITEM: Staff to add this to the MACAI 2012 Business Plan 5.6 Accessible Fuel Stops -discussion 5.7 John Kanjer provided background information on this item. Councillor Bell confirmed that he will visit the local station in Pitt Meadows to enquire about their service standards. Mike Huber confirmed that he would contact the Service Station Corporations to enquire about their service standards. John Kanjer confirmed that he will visit the Esso Station in Pitt Meadows to request their interest and ability to provide full service for customer's with disabilities. ACTION ITEM: John Kanjer, Councillor Bell and Mike Huber will provide another update at the February meeting. Staff is to research the possibility of a universal sign for full Service Stations and incorporating this item into press releases during Disability Awareness Week. Disability Week and noted this event will Shelley Jorde updated the Committee on the Disability Awareness Week and noted this event will take place between May 30 -June 3, 2011, and requested that a sub- committee be formed to plan the promotion and annual awards ceremony held during this week. The Committee requested that this year's event be held in Pitt Meadows' Council Chambers. The sub-committee will consist of; Greg Turnbull, Kimberly Hoffman, Gillian Small and staff. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Bus Stop Top 20 Status -defer 6.3 Curb Cuts Update John Ricketts provided an update on curb cuts. 7. Roundtable Shelley Jorde noted that Bowman Employment will be hosting a workshop on February 23, 2011 in the Fraser Room of Maple Ridge Library focusing on hiring those with disabilities. Shelley also noted that the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) will be attending an event hosted by the Lion's Club on March 12th, 2011 between 12-Spm at the Maple Ridge Senior's Activity Centre. Shelley requested for volunteers interested in attending the event and manning the MACAI information table to contact Petra Frederick. 8.
