Adoption of the Agenda R11-003 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda dated February 17, 2011 be adopted with the following amendments; Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility issues Page 1 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues February 17, 2011 • Item 6.2 was renumbered to Item 6.1 • Item 6.3 was renumbered to Item 6.2 • Add Item 5.8 Maple Ridge Engineering Standard Tactile Drawing CARRIED 3. Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting R11-004 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the January 20, 2011 Regular Meeting be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations -Nil 5. Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Life Trail Advanced Wellness System -pictures from park in Port Coquitlam -defer Petra Frederick reviewed the Lift Trail Advanced Wellness System report along with the adaptable equipment that is located at Gates Park in Port Coquitlam. Ms. Frederick noted that the photos have been sent to the Parks Department noting that if there are opportunities for this equipment in any parks in Maple ridge or Pitt Meadows the Committee would be interested in assisting with the process. Greg Turnbull advised that the elevator in the Leisure Centre will be out of commission for 6-12 weeks. 5.2 Public request for parking on Lougheed and 224th 5.3 John Ricketts provided an update on the public request from an employee of a business located at Lougheed and 224th. Petra Frederick advised the Committee that she has done extensive research on this item and reviewed the information collected from the City of Kelowna, City of Richmond and the City of Victoria . Staff advised the Committee that two separate issues need to be reviewed; the time limit to parking for those with SPARC passes and the structure of a parking space. Accessible Fuel Stop -discussion Councillor Bell provided an update on the research that he completed by visiting 4 of the gas stations to inquire about their "full service" options. Councillor Bell noted that generally at those stations where there are two employees working; full service would be provided to those that require full service. Councillor Bell also noted that at the Shell and Esso stations where there is typically only one employee working; they would lock up the store and provide full service. The Committee agreed to wait until Mike Huber is in attendance to provide an update on the information he obtained from the Service Stations Corporations. 5.4 Disability Awareness Week (discussion and promotion) Petra Frederick advised the Committee that Disability Awareness Week is between May 30 -June 3, 2011 and the Disability Awards would be held during this week. The Committee discussed how to promote their work to the public and had the following suggestions; creation of an information bookmark, poster contest, and advertising at Senior's Week, the Resource Fair, Strawberry Tea, and Transition Fair. It was confirmed that the sub-committee consists of Greg Turnbull, Kimberly Hoffman, Gillian Small, Thelma Boudreau and staff. 5.5 Disability Awards Ceremony This item was dealt with under Item 5.4 5.6 Council Presentation Time Line Petra Frederick advised the Committee that under the newly endorsed Committees of Council Policy that MACAI is now responsible for two presentations to Maple Ridge Council which would take place sometime in May with the second presentation taking place in early December. Ms. Frederick also advised that the Committee is responsible for one presentation to Pitt Meadows Council which would take place in May to promote the Disability Awards. Petra Frederick also advised the Committee that a request has been received from the Senior's Networking Committee for a presentation on March 31st, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. in the Randy Herman Building. 5. 7 MACAI Promotions (forming of sub committee) 5.8 Petra Frederick noted that the sub-committee for the Disability Awareness Week will also take care of promotions for these events. Maple Ridge Engineering Department Standard Tactile Drawing Petra Frederick reviewed the email from the Engineering Department regarding the Standard Tactile Drawings that will be included in "Engineering Standards Drawing". The Committee agreed to send a request to the Engineering Department to ensure that a centred bollard is positioned at, zero elevation, closest to the road (for the downtown core and not residential) be included in these drawings. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Bus Stop Top 20 Status -defer 6.2 Curb Cuts Update Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page3 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues February 17, 2011 John Ricketts provided an update on curb cuts and tactile surfaces. Mr. Ricketts noted that a list of locations that require tactile surfaces has been created for Pitt Meadows and will contact Petra Frederick and Councillor Bell to talk about next steps. Petra Frederick advised that Pitt Meadows budgets for curb letdowns are allocated at the start of the season and is difficult to request changes throughout the year. Petra Frederick advised that Greg Turnbull has been appointed to the Pitt Meadow's Advisory Design Panel as a representative of the community. Ms. Frederick also noted that the Maple Ridge Advisory Design Panel is comprised of individuals from their respective fields and MACAI has made a formal request in the past to sit on their panel which was declined. 7. Roundtab/e Greg Turnbull Greg noted that Delta Airlines has been hit with infraction for complaints to not being accessible. Joylene MacBurnie Joylene noted there is an open session in April on Tuesday nights for the Woman's Group that she attends and Chairs and extended an invitation to any committee members that wish to attend. Thelma Boudreau Thelma noted that the Senior's Centre in Pitt Meadows has been endorsed to move forward with plans. Petra Frederick Petra reviewed and distributed the Access Newslink Newsletter which included an analysis of accessible bus stops in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows .. 8.
