The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee
on Accessibility Issues, held in the Blaney Room at the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple
Ridge, British Columbia, on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.

4.1 SaferHomes Society Update -Patrick Simpson -defer
5. Unfinished & New Business
5.1 Review past and present Curb Cut Requests
John Ricketts provided a list of curb cut requests that need to be addressed by the
Engineering Department. Mr. Ricketts also provided the following areas in Pitt Meadows
that need to be addressed;
Please note that Councillor Hogarth joined the meeting at 5:09 p.m.
• 228 and Lougheed, on the northwest side there is an island that needs a curb cut
• Laity and Lougheed there is an island that needs a curb cut
• The curb cut on Lougheed Hwy and Benz Transmission on the Northwest corner
• There is one across from 7-Eleven that needs to be fixed
5.2 Pedestrian Safety Hammond (staff update)
Shelley Jorde advised the Committee that the letter was forwarded on to Council and the
Engineering Department and reviewed the reply from Michael Eng in the Engineering
Department that noted there will be a public process to determine what is needed in the
Hammond Neighbourhood.
5.3 Review past bus stop updates -deferred
5.4 Accessible parking in the Downtown Core -update from Councillor Hogarth
Shelley Jorde reviewed drawings from the Engineering Department providing examples for
accessible parking in the downtown core.
Please note that Councillor Bell joined the meeting at 5:34p.m.

• 1st priority -Picture 3 -location -with both the first and second spots -224 on
the west side in front of the Massage Therapy place (with lane being widened to
3.8)
• 2nd Priority-Picture 1 -location -223 on the east side just north of the lane
• 3rd Priority-Picture 2 -location -224 on the west side north of Lougheed in front
of the deli -
• 4th -Picture 4 -location -224 on the east side south of Lougheed near the oral
surgery place

5.5 Review of Accessibility Awards
Shelley Jorde thanked the Committee for preparing the nominations and helping with the
night of events. Ms. Jorde noted that she was pleased to see Pitt Meadow's Council
Chamber's full.
Shelley Jorde also requested the Chair to present who the award recipients were at the
update to Councils in July.
Shelley Jorde noted that she would like to see the Committee explore how they can
connect to some organizations that go above and beyond how they provide services to
those with accessibility issues.
5.6 Chair & Vice-Chair -Terms of Reference (extension of terms & Co-Vice-Chair options)
The Committee Clerk advised that the calendar year runs January 1 through
December 31 and there for the Chair and Vice-Chair appointments should happen as
the first item of business at the January meeting of each year.
The Committee Clerk also advised that there can be an "alternate to the Vice-Chair"
appointed in the situation where the Chair is away from the meeting and the Vice-
Chair is also unable to chair the meeting.
5. 7 Accessibility of Transitional Housing Project & surrounding area
Shelley Jorde advised the Committee that she will provide an update on this item
once she hears back from the Engineering Department.
The Committee discussed different associations and organizations that assist those
with disabilities throughout our community along with the idea of sending out a
monthly letter from the Chair of the Committee thanking them. Staff confirmed that
this information will be included in the press release on the awards event.

John Kanjer -thanked the Committee for their work and noted that it has been a pleasure
. working with the Committee and District staff on accessibility issues.
Judy Lewis -noted that she is very pleased to see the advancement along with the fact that
there is an accessibility committee here.
Thelma Boudreau -noted that the ground has been broken for the new Senior's Centre in Pitt
Meadows.
Shelley Jorde -noted that Manfred, herself and the Engineering Department did a site visit to
the 224th
Shelley Jorde noted that she needs a member of the Committee to work on the Rick Hansen
Relay in Motion Steering Committee for their 25th Anniversary Tour.

That Greg Turnbull and John Kanjer will represent MACAI on the Rick Hansen Wheels in
Motion Steering committee to assist in the planning of their 25th Anniversary Tour.

Councillor Bell -provided an update on yesterday's Pitt Meadow's ADP meeting and thanked
Greg Turnbull for his role and expertise on the Panel.
Stepan Vdovine -noted that the School District also works on inclusion and when I come to
places like this I'm blown away by the work and dedication from the Committee.
