Adoption of the Agenda R12-001 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda dated February 16, 2012 be adopted. R12-002 Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the November 17, 2011 Regular Meeting be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations -Nil 5. Unfinished & New Business R12-003 5.1 Nomination of Chair and Vice Chair Councillor Hogarth nominated Manfred Wuensche as the Chair and Manfred Wuensche accepted the nomination. Randy Wagner nominated Kevin Priebe as the Vice-Chair and Petra Frederick nominated Joylene MacBurnie for the role of Vice-Chair and both Mr. Kevin Priebe and Ms. MacBurnie accepted the nominations. It was decided that the Committee would like to establish a Co Vice-Chair role. It was moved and seconded That Manfred Wuensche be appointed as the Chair and Kevin Priebe and Joylene MacBurnie be appointed as Co Vice-Chairs for the 2012 term. CARRIED Please note that Manfred Wuensche assumed the role of Chair from this point of the meeting on. R12-004 5.2 Sub Committee Formation Manfred Wuensche provided a review of each of the following sub-committees. 5.2.1 Curb Cuts/ Bus Stop Pads Petra Frederick advised that each year the Engineering Department sets aside funding to complete 5-7 curb cuts and bus pads combined. It was moved and seconded That the Curb Cuts/Bus Stops Pads sub-committee will consist of Theresa Whyte, Julie Lewis, Susa van der Heever, Teresa Daniels, Kathy Marshall, and Randy Wagner. CARRIED Councillor Hogarth noted that he would like the sub-committee to address the bus stop pads located at Samuel Robertson Technical School as part of their work. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of5 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility issues February 16, 2012 R12-005 R12-006 5.3 ) R12-007 R12-008 5.2.2 MAGA/ Annual Awards It was moved and seconded That the Maple Ridge -Pitt Meadows Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues Annual Awards sub-committee will consist of; Joylene MacBurnie, Thelma Boudreau, and Kevin Priebe. CARRIED 5.2.3 Displays/ Presentations It was moved and seconded That the Displays/Presentations sub-committee will consist of Susa van der Heever and Manfred Wuensche. CARRIED Downtown Accessible Parking 5.3.1 Influx Accessible Parking in Downtown Core Petra Frederick provided a history of how the four accessible parking spots were established on Lougheed Highway between 224th Street and 223rd Street. Ms. Frederick advised that staff have received two complaints that the accessible parking is excessive and store owners would like to see one spot removed. It was moved and seconded That a recommendation be forwarded to Council that the amount of accessible stalls not be reduced until staff have had the opportunity to complete their parking study for the downtown core. And that if the District of Maple Ridge is going to embark on a parking study in the downtown core that staff are to investigate the parking ratios in terms of on street parking within the downtown core for handicap parking. CARRIED 5.3.2 Request additional accessible parking North Road Medical Building Petra Frederick reviewed the request for additional accessible parking at the North Road Medical Building with the committee. It was moved and seconded That the request for additional parking at the North Road Medical Building be delayed until staff have had the opportunity to complete their parking study for the downtown core. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility issues Page 3 of 5 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility issues February 16, 2012 R12-009 R12-010 And that if the District of Maple Ridge is going to embark on a parking study staff are to investigate the parking ratios in terms of on street parking within the downtown core for handicap parking. CARRIED 5.4 Access Transit -Increase in Accessible Bus Stops in Maple Ridge Petra Frederick reviewed the letter Mayor and Council received from the Access Transit's Users' Advisory Committee titled "Increase in Accessible Bus Stops in Maple Ridge". It was moved and seconded That staff invite a member from Translink and Translink's Access Transit Users' Advisory Committee and the District of Maple Ridge's Engineering Department to a future meeting to review and discuss accessible bus stop standards within our community. CARRIED 5.4.1 Engineering Attachment Petra Frederick reviewed the Engineering Attachment and deferred this item to the Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads sub-committee. 5.5 2012 Meeting Schedule -adoption The Committee Clerk reviewed the 2012 Meeting Schedule with the Committee. The Chair requested that the July and August meeting be called at the discretion of the Chair if important business needs to be discussed. It was moved and seconded That the amended 2012 meeting schedule be adopted. CARRIED 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Rick Hansen Planning Committee Update Petra Frederick reviewed the Rick Hansen 25th Celebration tour and provided an update on the work of the planning committee. Ms. Frederick reviewed the events for both celebrations (one in Maple Ridge and one in Pitt Meadows) that will showcase our local successes and improvements around accessibility. 6.2 Snow Angels Committee Update Petra Frederick provided a review and update on the Snow Angels Committee work. Roundtable Kevin Priebe-reported that CanoeKayak BC is hosting the 2012 Paracanoe Spring Training Camp & National Team Trials at the Zajak Ranch on April 13 -29, 2012. Teresa Daniels -reported that her son has been selected to play on the BC Power Soccer Team at the Nationals in Quebec. Susa van der Heever -requested that letters be sent to Teresa Daniel's son congratulating him for making the BC Powerteam and that a letter be sent to the Zajak Ranch welcoming CanoeKayak BC. ACTION ITEM: That the Chair connect with Kevin Priebe and Teresa Daniels regarding congratulatory letters. 8. Correspondence 9. 10. 8.1 2012 Committee Membership The Committee Clerk asked the committee to review their contact information and provide her with any updates that are required.
