That the Minutes of the March 15, 2012 Regular Meeting be adopted with the following
amendment;
Item 4.1 It was noted that Sandra Baker left the meeting at 5:45 p.m. and not 7:45 p.m.

4. Delegations and Presentations
4.1 United Way's 2011 Seniors Forum -Aging with Dignity -Making it Happen for
Everyone. Heather Treleaven, Coordinator -MRPMK Seniors Network -deferred
5. Unfinished & New Business
5.1 Downtown Accessible Parking
Petra Frederick provided an update on the Downtown Accessible Parking and advised
that staff are working closely with engineering to resolve some of the concerns and
issues regarding accessible parking.
The committee discussed the need to formulize accessible street parking with
recommended guidelines based on location, length, width and sidewalk access.
Please note that Brenda Brown arrived at 5:17 pm
ACTION ITEM: Teresa Daniels will provide the committee with measurements for
her van. Committee members are to research accessible street
parking specifications.
The Committee discussed the feasibility of requesting bylaws to complete a count of
parking stalls versus accessible parking from North Road to Dewdney Trunk Road
and between 222nd to 228th Street.
Councillor Hogarth also indicated and received permission from the committee to
take the issue of accessible street parking forward to council explaining that MACAI is
working on this issue and looking for resolutions and solutions.
5.2 Annual Accessibility Awards
Petra Frederick provided an update on the Annual Accessibility Awards and distributed the
revised nomination form to the committee members. Ms. Frederick advised that the
awards evening will be taking place on June 7th, 2012 in the Maple Ridge Council
Chambers.

Councillor Hogarth and Councillor Bell have requested 200 copies each of the nomination
form, along with promotional material, which will be distributed at the Maple Ridge/Pitt
Meadows home show.
The Committee will also host an informational booth at the Rick Hansen End of Day
Celebration in Maple Ridge to be supported by Manfred Wuensche, Susa van der Heever,
Teresa Daniels and Councillor Hogarth.
The Committee will also host an informational booth at the Pitt Meadows Rick Hansen
noon hour celebration, to be supported by Teresa Daniels and Thelma Boudreau.
5.3 224th Pedestrian Presentation
Petra Frederick reviewed the 224th Pedestrian Presentation with the Committee.
6. Committee Reports
6.1 Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads
The sub-committee provided an update on the following Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads
locations:
• North on 223th and Dewdney Trunk Road -bushes are too high can not see traffic
from a seated position
• North side Dewdney at 223rd Street crossing hydro pole blocks line of site -
someone crossing cannot see cars and cars cannot see them
• Lougheed Highway and 228th Street -northwest corner island not accessible
• Laity street and Lougheed Highway -southwest side cannot get to the push
button to cross the street
• Harris Road and Lougheed Highway -cannot access the island due to the
telephone pole
• John Ricketts email regarding Pitt Meadows curb cuts -include on the
spreadsheet
• 232nd and 128th (Yennadon just past school and Petro-Canada) -pavement ends
(shoulder is grated with drainage however no sidewalk) resident in area that
requires assistance due to surface)
• Bonson Road (south) -no cross walk and no sidewalks
6.1.1 Top Ten List Required
The sub-committee is in the process of reviewing the curb cut requests and
will provide their top ten list which will be forwarded to, by staff, to the
Engineering Department for review.
6.2 Annual Accessibility Awards
An update for this item was provided under Item 5.2.
Please note that Councillor Hogarth left the meeting at 6:35pm

6.3 Displays & Presentations
Kevin Priebe advised that he will design a poster board that highlights the work of the
Committee which will be used as a promotional tool at community events.
ACTION ITEM: Members are asked to forward all pictures and descriptive words
to Mr. Priebe no later then May 4, 2012.
6.4 Rick Hansen Planning Committee Update
Petra Frederick provided an update on the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Celebration
that will take place over two days in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and noted that
the planning is going well.
6.5 Snow Angels Committee Update
There was nothing to report on this Item.
7. Roundtable
Patricia Palomino discussed the BC Ferries letter that was attached as correspondence to
the March 15, 2012 agenda. Ms. Palomino noted that she would like the Committee to
write a letter to BC Ferries requesting better signage to assist persons with disabilities.
Manfred Wuensche advised the Committee that he has sent in his retirement resignation
effective June 30, 2012 for his professional job.
