Adoption of the Agenda Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 1 of5 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, October 18, 2012 3. R12-022 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda dated October 18, 2012 be adopted with the following amendments: • Add Item 4.1 HandyDart Presentation -Linda McGowan, Consumer Manager for MVT Canadian Bus • Add Item 5.4 City of Pitt Meadows Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan -Draft #2 CARRIED Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the September 20, 2012 Regular Meeting be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations 4.1 Linda McGowan, Consumer Advocate Manager for MVT Canadian Bus Linda McGowan introduced herself and reviewed the present services that HandyDart currently offer. Ms. McGowan advised that while there haven't been direct cuts to HandyDart however there have not been any increases to keep up with the demands and increases in population. Ms. McGowan reviewed the booking dates with the Committee along with current fares and noted that these fares will increase in 2013. Linda provided the Committee members with her contact information and reviewed the Ta xi Saver program and what a Handy Card is. Please note that Item 6.1 was dealt with prior to Items 5.1 through 5.4 5. Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Review Draft 2013-2017 Business Plan Petra Frederick reviewed the Draft 2013 -2017 Business Plan with the Committee. The Committee made the following suggestions; • Councillor Hogarth will contact the ARMS and KEEPs with regards to the Kanaka Park being made accessible • Contact the BIA and Chamber of Commerce about attending the Awards • Make contact with Farmer's Market and Social Planning about networking Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of5 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility issues Thursday, October 18, 2012 ----------~12-023 It was moved and seconded I That the revised 2013-2017 Business Plan be adopted. CARRIED 5.2 Downtown Accessible Street Parking Specifications and Update -deferred 5.3 Snow Angels 2013 Gillian Small provided an update on the Snow Angels program noting that Ridge Meadows Association for Community Living took over the incoming calls for nominations of Snow Angels (which there was one phone call). Petra Frederick advised that the Snow Angel program focuses on neighbors helping neighbors with snow removal. Ms. Frederick noted that these individuals are then nominated as "Snow Angels " and receive a certificate (and pin) from the Mayor thanking them for their service. 5.4 City of Pitt Meadows Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan -Discussion Paper #2: Improvement Strategies Kevin Priebe reviewed the City of Pitt Meadows Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan - Discussion Paper #2: Improvement Strategies report with the Committee and the following suggestions were made: • Snow Angels Program -needs to be identified as a neighbour helping neighbor program, we do not solicit for volunteers. • The use of scooters needs to be mentions and where they belong (sidewalk or cycling lanes). • This report need to talk about inclusiveness. • Page 8 -"Proposed Off-Street Pathway" what type of surface will this be? • Page 2 -Role of the Plan -2nd paragraph the word "accessible" should be added to that first sentence. • Incorporation of tactile let downs would make it accessible for wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility devices. The use of the cattle gates to control motorized and non-motorized this should be more specific that you can get a double stroller through there. The Committee agreed that this is a really great starting point with regards to this initiative. Please note that Mike Murray joined the meeting at 7:00 p.m. R12-023 It was moved and seconded That a recommendation be forwarded to staff working on the City of Pitt Meadows Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan noting that that the committee is encouraged by this initiative and would like to work closely on future work with regards to equal accessibility for all. Committee Reports -Nil R12-024 6.1 Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads Theresa Whyte distributed the MACAI 20122/2012 Curb Cut and Sidewalk Requests for Maple Ridge. The Committee agreed that the top 5 priorities are: • Laity Street and Dewdney Trunk Road -concern specific to location of traffic signal buttons • 12209 Laity Street • Dewdney Trunk Road -outside city hall to the right of the underground access • North on 223rd and Dewdney Trunk Road • Lougheed Highway and 228th Northwest corner Councillor Hogarth advised that at the last UBCM Conference he met with the Ministry of Transportation and he mentioned two main intersections that we're having troubles with (216 + Laity and Lougheed Staff advised that the intersection of Lougheed and Laity will be added back on to the list. Councillor Hogarth also inquired about the intersection of 227th and Lougheed Highway as what the plans will look like. Roundtable -Nil Mike Murray advised that the School Board is available for a presentation from the Committee on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 Please note that Gillian Small and Susa van der Heever left at 7:06 p.m. Councillor Hogarth provided an update on the Safer Homes Society noting that a safer home has been built in Richmond and the society has set aside $600 per unit up to a 100 of safer homes standard. 8.
