4. Delegations and Presentations
Note: Item 4.1 was dealt with before the meeting was called to order due to lack of quorum.
4.1 Engineering presentation on upcoming 2013 projects
Michael Eng, Traffic and Transportation Technologist for the District of Maple Ridge
gave an update on upcoming engineering projects in 2013 related to accessibility.
Mr. Eng would also like the committee to recommend locations for the following:
= Accessibility bus stops
• Tactical pane! locations
• Curb cut locations ( a 2014 list)
Mr. Eng invited the committee to the open house on February 21, 2013 which is
revealing the plans for a multi-use pathway along Lougheed Highway.
5. Unfinished & New Business
5.1 Amending the MACAI Bylaw
Petra Fredrick, Recreation Coordinator for the District of Maple Ridge lead discussion on
whether a youth be represented on the MACAI Committee. Ms. Fredrick advised the
Committee that the committee bylaw would have to be amended in order to enable this to
be a voting position . The following considerations were discussed in regards to a youth
position:
• The recruiting process will include approaching school career councillors, youth
councils, the youth centre, and the Association for Community Living.
• Preference should be given to individuals with varying abilities.
• A pilot position
e The term should be from September to June
o Two student positions, one from Pitt Meadows and one from Maple Ridge.

Action Item: Petra Fredrick to draft a letter to the career councillors in the six high schools
Please Note: This motion will have to be forwarded to Council for approval

That the Committee supports a pilot 'Student at Large' position on the Municipal Advisory
Committee on Accessibility Issues for 4 months.

5.2 Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre Update
5.3
Petra Fredrick was able to post the contest information on the District Facebook page and
will post it on the Intranet. The contest closes at the end of April.
Kathy Marshall also announced it at the School Board meeting.
10th Annual Accessibility Awards (event discussions)
Petra Frederick provided an update on the 10th Annual Accessibility Awards.
Ms. Fredrick will confirm the date and place for the Committee of Thursday June 6th
2013 6:30 pm to 7:30pm at the Council Chambers.
The Committee suggested this year to invite local sport committees, athletes, clubs
and active community groups to submit displays for the outside hallway.
The Committee is exploring the creation of a specialty award, 'Greg Turnbull ' award to
be presented to a community member that goes above and beyond to enhance
services for persons with disabilities.
A Sub Committee will explore the feasibility of additional awards for financial
contributors, who assist persons with disabilities in accessing positive recreation and
community supports.
Any changes to awards will have to be submitted to Council for approval.
Action item: Petra Fredrick to confirm the date, location and time of the 10th Annual
Accessibility Awards.
5.4 Request for Time Limits on Accessible Pa rking Stalls
Petra Fredrick informed the Committee of a request for time limits to be placed on
accessible parking stalls in the downtown area. The Bylaw department has noticed
accessible parking stalls are being used for extensive periods of time which inhibits
others from being able to park there.

That the committee recommends all accessible parking stalls within the downtown
core have a two hour parking limit.

5.5 Request for an Audible Signal on 224 th Street and 121st Avenue
Petra Fredrick informed the Committee of a request for an audible signal on 224th and
121st Avenue.
It was moved and seconded
That the Committee supports the purchase and installation of a self activated audible
signal at the corners of 224th Street and 121st Avenue with volume controls similar to the
Rosewood and Dewdney Trunk Road location.

7. Roundtable
Kevin Priebe -He will be competing at the end of March in cross country skiing and then
training at a kayak training camp in Florida.
Thelma Boudreau -The seniors centre is open and served tea on Valentines Day.
Petra Frederick -In the Jan 30th issue of 'The News' paper, K.evin Priebe was featured and he
referenced the MACAI Committee in the article.
Tracy Camire, Committee Clerk for the District of Maple Ridge sent out an
email from the Community Heritage Committee asking the SPAC Committee
to fill out a survey.
Action item: The Committee Clerk will send out the internet lin k of the Community Heritage
Committee questionnaire to the Committee.
Pitt Meadows Family Recreation centre wou ld like the Committee to comment
on the renovation designs of their facility.
Action item: Committee to inspect the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre and view the
plans for upcoming changes before the next MACAI meeting.
Joylene MacBurnie -Summer Black created a website to eliminate the use of the "r word".
People can sign up on the website and pledge to not use this word. She
suggested that Summer Black be considered for an accessibility award.
