That the Agenda dated September 1 9, 2013 be adopted with the following changes: Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, September 19, 2013 - Draft Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of 4 5.5 B11 Regulations for Motorized Mobility Aids in Sidney CARRIED 3.Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting . R13-020 It was moved and seconded. That the Minutes of the May 16, 2013 Regular Meeting be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations - Nil 5.Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Review MACAI 2013 Business Plan Petra Frederick reviewed the goals of the 2013 Business Plan. 5.2 Business Planning 2014 The Committee worked with staff to make revisions and suggestions for the 2014 Business Plan.Staff will make revisions and the Committee will review the draft Business Plan at the next meeting. 5.3 Review Accessibility Awards Event (changes for 2014) Petra Frederick thanked the committee for their attendance at the awards. The event was well received by all who attended. Committee members agreed they saw a need to increase the nominations. 5.4 Request Pitt Meadows City Hall to evaluate CP crossing at Harris Road Kevin Priebe gave an overview of recent research and photos he had taken at the Harris Road CP crossing and discussed the concerns with wheels (bike, wheelchair, walker, etc) have at this crossing. Mr. Priebe also presented research that this crossing is not just a localized problem and that the installation of a rubber flange way filler could potentially stop the problems of wheels getting stuck into railway crossings. R13-021 It was moved and seconded. That the Committee will forward a staff report with recommendations and personal accounts regarding the dangers at the CP crossing at Harris Road to the City of Pitt Meadows staff. CARRIED Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, September 19, 2013 - Draft Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 3 of 4 5.5 B11 Regulations for Motorized Mobility Aids - Sidney Kevin Priebe gave an overview of the UBCM recommendation made by the City of Sidney regarding wheelchairs in the mobility act. Kathy Marshall stated that the UBCM conference had occurred earlier in the day on September 19, and this resolution was not passed. 6.Committee Reports 6.1 Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads Kevin Priebe gave an overview of the recommendations made to Pitt Meadows City Hall with the curb at Charlton Motors on Harrris Road in Pitt Meadows and the outcome of what the City of Pitt Meadows did to repair this location. R13-022 It was moved and seconded. That a letter be sent from the Chair of the Committee to the City of Pitt Meadows thanking them for the repairs made on the curb cut at Charlton Motors in Pitt Meadows at Harris Road and north of 122 nd Avenue . CARRIED 6.2 Annual Accessibility Awards Dealt with under 5.3. 6.3 Displays & Presentations - Nil 7.Roundtable Gillian Small reported that on October 2 there are 2 events taking place to celebrate Community Living Day.One is from 11:30-2:00 pm at Memorial Peace Park and includes a free lunch;the second event is later in the evening at 6:00 pm at The ACT which includes guest speakers. Tickets for the 6:00 pm event are $20. Thelma Boudreau reported that the Seniors Centre is doing wonderfully and just recently had several events which included;a youth and senior night,a patio party,a dessert and coffee where 42 people attended and they will be having a Chinese lunch October. Petra Frederick reported there are two Seniors Symposiums coming up on October 5 in Pitt Meadows and October 12 in Maple Ridge.Ms.Frederick also reported that GetiFest is looking a involving individuals with varying abilities in their festivities,specifically a parade. Maria Kovacs,resident of District of Maple Ridge brought to the attention of the committee,the City of Vancouver’s new Housing bylaw initiative which is going forward for 1st, 2nd and 3rd readings. Kevin Priebe explained the frustrations of using gas pumps in Maple Ridge,which are quite inaccessible for people in wheelchairs. 8.Correspondence 9.Next Meeting : Thursday, October 17 , 2013 Agenda Deadline:Thursday, September 30, 2013 10.Adjournment : 7:09 pm. __________________________________ Chairperson /jg
