R14-004 Adoption of the Agenda It was moved and seconded. That the Agenda dated March 20, 2014 be adopted with the following amendment; • Item 5.6 Pitt Meadows School Parking CARRIED Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 1 of4 \ Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, March 20, 2014 3. Minutes of the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Regular Meeting. 1 R14-005 It was moved and seconded. 4. 5. R14-006 That the Minutes of the February 20, 2014 Regular Meeting be adopted. CARRIED Delegations and Presentations -Nil Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Compass Pass Update Petra Frederick discussed the new universal Compass Pass being introduced by Translink which replaces all other forms of memberships or cards currently used. This new pass enables a better mechanism to track statistics as well as a balance protection on your card. Ms. Frederick further discussed the challenges which individuals may be facing with this new pass card. Ms. Frederick will discuss this with the staff liaison from the Social Planning Advisory Committee with the prospect of a joint letter forwarded to Council which will raise awareness to the challenges of this new pass. It was moved and seconded. That staff will compose a letter to Mayor and Council informing them on the challenges of this new Compass Pass byTranslink. CARRIED 5.2 May meeting location Kevin reviewed the meeting locations for May and September MACAI meetings which will happen in the Meadows Room at Pitt Meadows City Hall. Petra Frederick reminded members of a previous discussion by committee members to alternate the meeting locations between Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. 5.3 Accessibility Awards (nomination approval) Petra Frederick handed out updated copies of the Accessibility Awards Application Form while asking for feedback from committee members. Ms. Frederick reviewed the closing dates for nominations and the award dates, along with the award categories and descriptions. Ms. Frederick will have updated copies shortly for members Please note: Councillor Bruce Bell entered the meeting at 5:46 pm. 5.4 Discussion/Brainstorm Citizen Survey Petra Frederick reviewed the MACAI work plan item, Citizen Survey and the work which has been completed so far with it. Ms. Frederick shared the research which has been completed with other organizations who have similar awards. Committee members brain stormed questions for the survey. Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, March 20, 2014 ' . 5.5 Intersections Project Petra reviewed the Intersections Project occurring on April 9 at the ACT and explained that she is unable to attended, but encouraged members to attend. Ms. Frederick explained what to expect during the evening. 5.6 Pitt Meadows Parking Councillor Bruce Bell passed around pictures of parking issues at Edith McDermon Elementary in Pitt Meadows and explained the concerns raised by local resident. The local resident has forwarded an email on to City staff and School District staff as well. Councillor Bell felt this individual could be a good candidate for this committee when a spot becomes available. Kathy Marshall will be following up on the concerns with School District Staff. Councillor Bell explained that Mayor Walters recommended this discussion come before MACAI. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads Petra Frederick reported that Theresa White has stepped down from MACAI, MS. White was the designated committee member who took care of curb cuts. Ms. Frederick will be following up with Engineering to determine the status of curb cuts in 2014. Councillor Bell and Councillor Hogarth suggested using the respective OCP's to determine what is designated as "downtown core" for all future curb cuts. Kathy Marshall reported she visited Samuel Robertson Secondary recently to investigate the accessible stop. Ms. Marshall will follow up with another visit to answer questions raised. 6.2 Annual Accessibility Awards -Nil 6.3 Displays & Presentations -Nil 7. Roundtable Maria Kovacs reported she received an email from a Surrey resident which had to do with an audible signal. This email indicated that ASIC and CNIB advised the city to turn down components related to the audible signals. Ms. Kovacs will contact CNIB to investigate this matter. Thelma Boudreau reported that the Seniors Centre recent held a senior lunch which served 43 people. Petra Frederick reported on an email she recently received from Dan Debeyer of Planat who is interested in presenting at a future MACAI meeting. Kevin Priebe reviewed a recent newspaper article which he felt could become a good candidate for the Disability Awards. 8. Correspondence -Nil 9.
