Adoption of the Agenda R14-007 It was moved and seconded. That the Agenda dated April 17, 2014 be adopted. CARRIED 3. That the Minutes of the March 20, 2014 Regular Meeting be adopted with the following amendment; • Maria Kovacs name be corrected in "Committee Members Present" • In Roundtable for Maria Kovacs to be corrected to read; "turn down components related to the audible signal" not " ... deactivate their audible signals". CARRIED 4. Delegations and Presentations -Nil 5. Unfinished & New Business 5.1 Intersections Meeting Follow-Up -Deferred Councillor Bruce Bell gave a brief update on his attendance at the Intersections meeting which he felt a very good and well attended event. Councillor Bell explained the purpose of this meeting was for all the committees of council to mingle and make connections. Councillor Al Hogarth reported this meeting helped look for crossovers between committees of council for possible collaboration on projects. Councillor Hogarth felt this will become an annual event and recommended this committee may want to investigate a pull-up banner to represent themselves as events like this. Please note: Kevin Priebe entered the meeting at 5:28 pm. 5.2 Survey Review Petra Frederick explained that due to a committee review which is underway, this survey will be temporarily suspended at this time. Please note: committee members chose to discuss another topic at this time. 5.3 Asset Mapping Project Kevin Priebe reviewed various maps of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows which could be used in the MACAI asset mapping project. Petra Frederick explained this is a business plan item for MACAI in 2014. Key items which could be included in this mapping project include; • Bus stops • Crossings • Curb cuts • Tactile surfaces • Lighting Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 2 of4 j Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, April 17, 2014 • Audible signals • Public washrooms Ms. Frederick stated the intention of this asset map is to be an inventory of accessibility within our communities and available to the public upon completion either on line or in print form. This map is being anticipated to be ready for the MACAI year-end report. Ms. Rolls volunteered to speak with Translink to get a list of accessible bus stops in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Further conversation on this project will happen at the May meeting where committee members will be assigned locations to investigate for accessibility. 5.4 Awards Update 5.5 Petra Frederick passed out 10 of the awards nomination pamphlets to each committee member present. Ms. Frederick reminded members we are looking for businesses, organizations and individuals who have gone above and beyond for people with disabilities. If further copies are required, please contact Ms. Frederick, or Joanne Georgelin. Nominations close May 14. May 15 is the next MACAI meeting in Pitt Meadows which Ms. Frederick hopes to use to review nominations. The awards night is June 11 in Maple Ridge Council Chambers. Compass Pass Update Petra Frederick explained a recent conversation with Linda McEwan, the disability liaison for Translink. Ms. McEwan will be attending the September meeting to give an update on the Compass Pass, as current information which has been released is no longer relevant. 6. Committee Reports 6.1 Curb Cuts & Bus Stop Pads -Nil 6.2 Annual Accessibility Awards -Nil 6.3 Displays & Presentations -Nil 7. Roundtable Kathy Marshal briefly explained the bussing issue as part of the budget crisis with the School District. Currently under the School Act, the School District is not legally required provide bussing, but they do. Ms. Marshall went on to explain the costs associated with bussing special needs children each year and the recommendations which will be coming forward at the next School District meeting. Kevin Priebe shared pictures and his personal experience with a multi-use trail and fence which Engineering are installing along 132nd Avenue which was to become a Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Page 3 of4 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Committee on Accessibility Issues Thursday, April 17, 2014 . ' paved pathway, however the Alouette Va lley Association requested this remain a walking path instead. Mr. Priebe expressed his difficulties using a multi-use gravel pathway.
