4.1 Susan Liles, BC Centre for Ability -The Opportunities Fund Program
Ms. Susan Liles made a presentation on the Opportunities Fund. This federal
fund provides support for people with disabilities who wish to retrain and find
employment. The fund provides grants through Service Canada for vocational
. training, child care costs during training, assistance with living expenses and
temporary wage subsidies. The goal is to assist people with disabilities to obtain
long term employment.
It was suggested that information on the fund be added to the MACAI website.
Mike Murray entered the meeting at 5:27 pm.
5. COMMUNITY FORUM
6. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS
6.1 Survey Update/ Discussion
The Staff Liaison provided a current printed version of the Citizen's Survey for
review and discussion. The Staff Liaison will incorporate suggestions received
and email an updated draft to members for a final review. Once finalized the
survey will be available online (on the MACAI website), taken to community
events during the summer and specifically shared with community organizations
that work with people with disabilities.
6.2 Accessibility Awards Update
The awards nomination form is available on line at
http://www.mapleridge.ca/986/Accessibility-Awards. Maple Ridge and Pitt
Meadows Councils will be invited to the ceremony. The ceremony will be held at
7:00 pm on June 17th, 2015 at Pitt Meadows City Hall. A nomination review
meeting will be scheduled soon.
6.3 PM and MR Translink update
The Chair reviewed the updated accessible transit stop spreadsheet. The Staff
Liaison thanked the members who had worked on this project for their work. The
Staff Liaison and the Chair will forward the transit stop spreadsheet to
Engineering along with a report to communicate that bringing stops on these
routes up to Translink accessibility standards is a priority for MACAI. Engineering
will be asked to respond with a plan of action.
Based on his work on the project the Chair reported that a lack of shelters and a
lack of transit amenities at transit hubs are a top concern in the communities.

6.5
It was suggested that information on stops that require attention can be
submitted to Translink for funding in October. Cydney Peacock was asked to
bring documentation to support a request in her neighbourhood to the next
meeting.
Business Plan review and planning 2016
The Staff Liaison reviewed the progress so far on the 2016 work plan. Good
progress is being made. A couple of items that require attention were
highlighted.
Engineering request to remove an accessible parking spot
A request from Maple Ridge Florist to change the designation of a parking spot
has been forwarded by Engineering for discussion and recommendation by
MACAI. Currently the spot is a 15 minute drop off spot (it's unclear if it's
designated as accessible). The request is to change the spot designation to 1
hour general. Underground parking is available around the corner. A discussion
resulted in the conclusion that a 15 minute time limitation makes the spot
difficult for anyone to use. The general feeling was that the spot should remain
accessible and a one hour time frame is preferable.
The Staff Liaison will confirm the current designation and email information to
members for further discussion.
7. CORRESPONDENCE-Nil
8. ROUNDTABLE
The Staff Liaison reported that Bernice Rolls and Cydney Peacock have been working
hard on the Age Friendly initiative. An Age Friendly event will be held June 10th and
registration is required.
