CALL TO ORDER Council Liaison, City of Maple Ridge Council Liaison, City of Pitt Meadows Community at Large, Maple Ridge Community At Large, Maple Ridge Community At Large, Maple Ridge Staff Liaison / Recreation Coordinator Committee Clerk Health Built Environment Program, Fraser Health RMACL School District #42 Trustee The Staff Liaison called the meeting to order at 5:09 pm and introductions were made. Jana Cranch outl ined the work done by the Fraser Health Healthy Built Environment Program. It was decided to defer the committee Chair and Vice-Chair elections until the committee recruitment process is complete. 2. R16-005 3. R16-006 AGENDA APPROVAL It was moved and seconded That the agenda be adopted. MINUTES APPROVAL It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the January 21, 2016 meeting be adopted. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1 Accessibility Survey Update The Staff Liaison provided an update on the Accessibility Survey, which will close on March 31, 2016. Positive and critical feedback has been received regarding the survey design and was discussed. A subcommittee has been formed to review, sort and analyze the responses. 6.2 MACAI Awards Event Update The Staff Liaison outlined the annual MACAI Accessibility awards. The community nominates individuals and organizations that have improved accessibility for people with disabilities in the City of Maple Ridge and City of Pitt Meadows. This year the ceremony will be held in Maple Ridge Council Chamber. June 2nd, 2016 is the tentative date. Ways to communicate and advertise the awards were discussed. Greg Turnbull entered the meeting at 5:24 pm. R16-007 DEFERRED R16-008 6.3 Offering an information session prior to the awards was suggested. (Ideas for sessions included emergency preparedness, information on home retrofits for those with limited mobility, presenting accessibility survey results). Greg Turnbull volunteered to contact a local coffee shop to ask if refreshments could be provided for the ceremony. Nominations will close mid-May. An MC will be chosen at the next meeting. Albion School Community Meeting Update The Staff Liaison reported on the City of Maple Ridge and SD 42 joint venture to plan a new community elementary school in Albion. A recent public consultation was very well attended and many creative ideas were generated. Community uses are planned for non-school hours. Plans will be presented to MACAI for accessibility feedback. 6.4 Changes to Disability Income and Transit Fare Update The Staff Liaison outlined recent changes to the monthly payments provided by the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation to people with disabilities. The payments were recently increased however the cost of a monthly Metro Vancouver transit pass was also recently increased. The committee discussed how the changes will affect those with disabilities. It was moved and seconded That a report be made to Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge Councils regarding the transit claw back by the provincial government and suggesting that a transit option for people with disabilities be investigated (similar to the B Pass in Victoria). It was moved and seconded That MACAI resolution R16-007 recommending communication to Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge Councils regarding the recent changes to transit passes for those with disabilities be deferred. The Staff Liaison was asked to contact Linda McGowan (MVT Consumer Advocate with Translink/HandyDart) and the Maple Ridge Social Policy Advisory Committee to discuss this topic. NEW BUSINESS It was agreed to add Item 7.1 -Update on Maple Ridge Special Council Meeting March 16, 2016 to the agenda. 7 .1 Update on Maple Ridge Special Council Meeting regarding Supportive Housing Councillor Speirs provided an update on the City of Maple Ridge Special Council Meeting held March 16, 2016 and the BC Housing proposal to provide supportive housing at the Quality Inn. 7.2 Advisory Committee Recruitment Update The Staff Liaison and Committee Clerk provided an update on recruitment for MACAI. 7 .3 MACAI Member to serve on Active Transportation Advisory Committee Councillor Speirs and the Staff Liaison outlined the newly formed Active Transportation Advisory Committee, whose membership includes a MACAI representative. Cydney Peacock volunteered to represent MACAI on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee. ROUNDTABLE The Staff Liaison provided an update on the Age-friendly initiative. Pitt Meadows Council has accepted the Pitt Meadows report. The Maple Ridge report will be going forward to Maple Ridge Council on March 29, 2016. Once accepted by Maple Ridge an application will be made to the provincial government for the official Age-friendly designation for both communities. Obtaining the designation will open up access to funding to support age-friendly initiatives. Some of the recommendations from the reports will be of direct interest to MACAI. The Staff Liaison will email the report to MACAI members. Maria Kovacs asked the Staff Liaison about sharing the Accessibility Survey with a community group and the seniors centre. Ms. Kovacs was asked to provide contacts for the groups to the Staff Liaison. Greg Turnbull reported on TETRA, a company that provides safety lights for wheelchairs, scooters, and bike trailers. TETRA is going public and Mr. Turnbull was able to support their recent launch event. Mr. Turnbull also reported on a clothing line that is being developed for people with disabilities. In response to a question from Ms. Kovacs Mr. Turnbull offered to ask TETRA about safety lights for guide animals. Mr. Turnbull offered to provide TETRA contact information to Ms. Peacock. Jana Cranch reported on the My Health My Community survey recently conducted by Fraser Health. The results have been received and data is now available at the ) MACAI Minutes March 17, 2016 Page 4 of 4 9. neighbourhood level. Ms. Cranch will forward the report to the Committee Clerk for distribution to MACAI. ADJOURNMENT It was moved and seconded That the meeting be adjourned at 6:46 pm. ~-. Chair /ss
