CALL TO ORDER 2. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2019-008 It was moved and seconded That the September 19, 2019 Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Agenda be amended as follows:  add item 6.4 – Provincial Accessibility Legislation, and that the agenda as amended be approved. ADOPTION OF MINUTES 3.1 March 21, 2019 R/2019-009 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness dated March 21, 2019 be adopted. CARRIED 3.2 May 16, 2019 R/2019-010 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness dated May 16, 2019 be adopted. CARRIED 4. DELEGATIONS 4.1 Neil Squire Society’s Makers Making Change  Zee Kesler, Neil Squire Society Ms. Kesler presented information about the Makers Making Change program, an initiative that focuses on connecting people with disabilities to affordable assistive technology. The Neil Squire Society is looking for individuals in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows area that may need the open source assistive technology they have available and also for “Makers” that can volunteer to help build requests and ideas. Ms. Kesler answered questions from the Committee and demonstrated some of the technology they have available. 5. QUESTION PERIOD – Nil 6. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1 2020 Workplan Petra Frederick, staff liaison, led discussion surrounding the Business Planning process for the Committee. Note: Councillor O’Connell left the meeting at 5:20pm. R/2019-011 It was moved and seconded That the following items are adopted into the 2020 MACAI Business Plan: 1) Communication Plan for MACAI 2) Community Forums (2) - One in each community 3) MACAI Awards CARRIED Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes September 19, 2019 Page 3 of 4 6.2 Senior Wayfinding App P. Frederick, staff liaison provided an update on the Senior Mapping App currently under development. The App was funded through an UBCM Age-Friendly grant and allows users to search for Maple Ridge doctors, social services, pharmacies, etc. and displays information about surrounding bus routes, walking routes, and accessible parking spots. 6.3 Age-Friendly Initiative Update P. Frederick, staff liaison, and Don Mitchell provided an update on the planned purchase of a large passenger vehicle using the UBCM Age-Friendly grant funding. 6.4 Provincial Accessibility Legislation Staff liaisons P. Frederick and J. Senchyna provided information on the consultation process for the forthcoming provincial accessibility legislation. The Committee discussed applying for SPARC BC funding to host a community meeting that would allow participants to provide input into the legislation. R/2019-012 It was moved and seconded That MACAI proceed to provide feedback into the Provincial Accessibility Legislation request and the City of Pitt Meadows and the City of Maple Ridge apply for the funding available through SPARC BC to host a community meeting. CARRIED 7. SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES 7.1 MACAI Awards Staff liaisons P. Frederick and J. Senchyna requested feedback from the MACAI Awards. The Committee discussed plans for future MACAI Award events. 7.2 Facilities/Outdoor Spaces Audit P. Frederick, staff liaison shared that the Outdoor Spaces – Accessibility and Inclusiveness audit, which was funded through a Plan H grant, has been completed. The audit rates the accessibility of the playgrounds and outdoor spaces in downtown Maple Ridge. 8. STAFF LIAISON UPDATES 8.1 City of Pitt Meadows Staff liaison J. Senchyna provided a summary of City of Pitt Meadows Parks and Recreation programs, special events and facility updates. Ms. Senchyna reminded the Committee that Community Service Award nominations are open until the end of September. 8.1.1 Maclean Park – New playground equipment update The ground breaking for the new playground was held in May 2019. The equipment meets and exceeds accessibility standards. 8.2 City of Maple Ridge - Nil Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes September 19, 2019 Page 4 of 4 9. CORRESPONDENCE - Nil 10. ROUNDTABLE  Rysa Kronebusch suggested MACAI participate in the 2020 Pitt Meadows Day parade. This item will be added to a future MACAI agenda.  Don Mitchell shared information about the RMSS 20th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser on October 26th. 11. ADJOURNMENT – 6:40pm ________________________ Kristina Morrison, Chair /em Schedule E 2341422 Page 13 of 17 Policy 3.11 Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Terms of Reference Mandate To advise Council on the enhancement of accessibility and inclusivity for present and future citizens of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The MACAI Committee will: 1. advise and/or inform Council, City departments, community agencies and organizations, and the communities on accessibility and inclusiveness by: a) identifying best practices; b) implementing a community wide survey on accessibility and inclusiveness once every three years (or as directed by Council); and c) advising and/or informing Council of relevant legislation. 2. Provide leadership and advocacy through City and community partnerships which emphasize community awareness of accessibility and inclusiveness by: a) responding and/or directing community enquiries and/or concerns; and b) recognizing existing and/or future community barriers and advising Council accordingly. 3. Recognize leadership, innovation and champions within the City, agencies and organizations and the community by: a) hosting annual “Accessibility and Inclusiveness Awards”; and b) providing annual community promotions pertaining to the MACAI committee and accessibility and inclusiveness best practices. Membership Composition The Committee will be comprised of the following 9 voting members:  One Council liaison from the City of Maple Ridge (or alternate)  One Council liaison from the City of Pitt Meadows (or alternate)  One member nominated by School District No. 42 (or alternate)  One member nominated by Fraser Health (or alternate)  One member nominated by Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Family Education and Support Centre (or alternate)  Three Members at Large from Maple Ridge, appointed by City of Maple Ridge Council, with a goal of representation from the youth and seniors communities, and interest and/or expertise in accessibility and inclusivity matters  One Member at Large from Pitt Meadows, appointed by City of Pitt Meadows Council, with a goal of representation from the youth and seniors communities, and interest and/or expertise in accessibility and inclusivity matters Standing Invitation Members (non-voting):  One member nominated by Ministry of Children and Family Development  One member nominated by Ministry of Social Development and Innovation  One member nominated by Ridge Meadows Association for Community Living  One member nominated by BC Special Olympics Quorum  Majority of voting members (5) Meetings  MACAI typically meets on the third Thursday of every other month and alternates meeting locations between Maple Ridge City Hall and Pitt Meadows City Hall  Meetings are typically held in: January, March, May, September and November Subcommittee  Age-friendly Subcommittee
