The Minutes of the Regular Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Meeting
held via Zoom teleconference and hosted in the Blaney Room at Maple Ridge City Hall on June 15,
2023 at 4:30pm.

That the June 15, 2023 Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness
agenda be adopted with amendment to remove Item 4.2 Delegation by Dwelltech Industries
on Dementia Friendly Auxiliary Dwellings.

4.1. Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT – BC)
T.Fawkes, Regional Director at the Canadian Association of Occupation Therapists, presented
on the Community Centre Fees: A Barrier to Accessibility. Topics included: community-based
rehabilitation, observed barriers to access, and potential solutions. Committee members
asked questions and engaged in discussion.
5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS
5.1. Off-Street Parking Bylaw Update – Krista Gowan, Planner 2
K. Gowan, Planner 2, presented on the Off-Street Parking and Loading Bylaw. Topics included:
the importance of parking, parking in Maple Ridge, on-street parking, municipal property off-
street parking, private property off-street parking, and an overview of the current proposed Off-
Street Parking Bylaw. Committee members participated in an activity to provide feedback on
the Off-Street Parking Bylaw.
6.LIAISON UPDATES
6.1. Staff Liaison
P. Frederick provided an update on the following:
•Housing Affordability Summit hosted by Mayor and Council on May 30, 2023
•Draft Accessibility and Inclusiveness Framework
6.2. Council Liaison
Councillor Yousef provided an update on the following:
•Dementia Friendly Café Celebration on June 10, 2023
•Dwelltech Industries Dementia Friendly Housing
6.3. SD42 Liaison
Trustee Campbell provided an update on Eric Langton Elementary and Pitt Meadows
Secondary School.
7.SUBCOMMITTE AND TASK FORCE UPDATES
7.1. Age-friendly Subcommittee
K.McLennan, Fraser Health Representative, provided an update on extreme weather
workshops for seniors and grant opportunities.
7.2. Awards Task Group
A. Ward, Chair, provided an update on MACAI Awards event details. Topics included: location,
entertainment, decorations, application deadline, and nomination guidelines.

7.3. Promotional Events
P. Fredrick, Staff Laison, provided an update on promotional events postcards. Committee
members shared ideas for promotional products.

L. Currie asked about storage and electric charging for accessible scooters in apartment
buildings.
9.ROUNDTABLE
Committee members provided updates and reports on issues and activities relating to
accessibility and inclusiveness in the community.
