Gosling, Chair, called the meeting to order and provided the land acknowledgment. 2.APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2023-PRCC-007 It was moved and seconded That the agenda for the July 20, 2023 Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Regular Meeting be approved as circulated. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3.ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2023-PRCC-008 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Regular Meeting dated February 8, 2023 be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4.DELEGATIONS – NIL 3.0 Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Minutes July 20, 2023 Page 2 of 3 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Urban Forest Management Strategy – Goal, Process, and Timeline C.Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning & Development, presented the Urban Forest Management Strategy. Topics included: project goals, process, and next steps. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.2 Maple Ridge Park – Playground Renovation Project C.Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning & Development, presented the Maple Ridge Park Playground Renovation. Topics included: park visits, family-oriented experience, play features interspersed with mature trees, accessibility improvements, expanded play opportunities, public engagement, and design concepts. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.3 New Park at Pazarena Place – Concept Plans & Community Engagement C. Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning & Development, presented the New Park at Pazarena Place. Topics included: public engagement, concept plans, and timelines. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.4 Port Haney Waterfront Multi-Use Pathway V. Richmond, Staff Liaison, provided background information on the Port Haney Waterfront Multi- Use Pathway. C. Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning & Development, presented the Port Haney Waterfront Multi-Use Pathway. Topics included: location, grant funding, First Nations engagement, and collaboration with consultants. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.5 Fees & Charges Review for 2023 R. Bosma, Recreation Coordinator – Business Operations, presented the Fees and Charges Review for 2023. Topics included: access for residents, fees and charges examples, processes, 2023 recommendations, and next steps. Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.6 PRC Master Plan: Schedule Special Meetings Committee members were informed of a special meeting request to review the PRC Master Plan. Special meeting dates will be circulated to Committee members before the next regular meeting. 6.LIAISON UPDATES 6.1 Staff Liaison V. Richmond and C. Neufeld provided an update on the following: •Fifth ice sheet and second aquatics facility •Raising the flag for the 2024 BC Summer Games on July 20, 2023 •Projects under constructions, including 241A Street Park, Beach Volleyball Courts, and Thornhill Trails Wayfinding, Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Minutes July 20, 2023 Page 3 of 3 6.2 Council Liaison Councillor Carreras provided an update on the following: •2024 BC Summer Games Board of Directions •Haney Artist in Residence for Haney Bypass Mural •Council break between July 25, 2023 to September 5, 2023 •Fire Master Plan 7.SUBCOMITTEE AND TASK FORCE UPDATES – NIL 8.QUESTION PERIOD FROM THE PUBLIC - NIL 9.ROUNDTABLE Committee members provided updates and reports on issues and activities relating to parks, recreation, and culture in the community. 10.ADJOURNMENT – 5:22 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 4:00 pm. ________________________ Carolyn Gosling, Chair /ad
