CALL TO ORDER -4:04 pm 1.1 Land Acknowledgement Council Liaison Member at Large Member at Large Member at Large Member at Large School District No. 42 Board Trustee Director of Parks & Facilities & Staff Liaison Manager of Parks Planning & Development Planner 2 Acting Deputy Corporate Officer Member at Large C. Gosling, Chair, called the meeting to order and provided the land acknowledgment. 2. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2023-PRCC-009 It was moved and seconded That the agenda for the September 27, 2023, Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Regular Meeting be approved as circulated. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3. ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2023-PRCC-010 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Maple Ridge Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Regular Meeting dated July 20, 2023, be adopted. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4. DELEGATIONS Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee Minutes September 27, 2023 Page 2 of 3 4.1 Draft Heritage Plan Overview -Krista Gowan K. Gowan, Planner 2, presented a draft Heritage Plan overview. Topics included: heritage myth busters, Maple Ridge's heritage, why heritage matters, brief history of the Heritage Program, the new Heritage Plan, and the five (5) big moves related to parks, recreation, and culture. Committee members asked questions, engaged in discussion, and provided feedback. 5. NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1 Urban Forest Management Strategy C. Cheng, Urban Forest Planner, and A. Needoba, Principal, Senior Urban Forester, with Diamond Head Consulting, presented an update on the Urban Forest Management Strategy. Topics included: what is an urban forest and its benefits, tree canopies by land use, ecosystem services, tree equity score, urban forest report card, and next steps. Committee members asked questions, engaged in discussion, and provided feedback. 6. LIAISON UPDATES 6.1 Staff Liaison V. Richmond provided an update on the following: • Celebration of Maple Ridge's first beach volleyball facility • Launch of the Maple Ridge Rec Facility Study • Update on meeting with ALC Commissioners regarding the non-farm use application for a fourth ice sheet • Celebration of National Tree Day 6.2 Council Liaison Councillor Carreras provided an update on the following: • U BCM Convention 2023 • 2024 BC Summer Games and Maple Ridge 150 • Council's endorsement of the Strategic Active Transportation Plan • Truth and Reconciliation Day -upcoming event at Memorial Peace Park • Annual committee recruitment season 7. SUBCOMITTEE AND TASK FORCE UPDATES -NIL 8. QUESTION PERIOD FROM THE PUBLIC-NIL 9. ROUNDTABLE Committee members provided updates and reports on issues and activities relating to parks, recreation, and culture in the community. 10.
