1. Ms. Kelly Swift provided a report and PowerPoint presentation on the 2005 Parks and Recreation
Survey. This survey was conducted by Ipsos-Reid and the objectives were:
to measure residents' use of parks and recreation programs and facilities
to measure residents' satisfaction with parks and recreation programs and facilities
to assess the level of volunteerism among residents
to assess the level of physical activity among residents and their children
to compare the above results to those that were tracked in 2002
2. Review of Maple Ridge Council Strategic Priorities -Mr. Murray reviewed the three main
priorities for the District of Maple Ridge which includes Economic Development, Smart
Managed Growth and Safe & Livable Community. There was a brief discussion.

the priorities for the School District which include: Community School's concept, Programs with

staff members rate the twenty-four service objectives individually Mr. Murray suggested that
focus be placed on the areas with the largest gaps.
6. Discussion Groups: Commission members then broke into four separate groups with staff
members facilitating on the following issues:
Spectator Exposure to sporting events/Interpret the Environment
Integrate generations within our communities/Integrate sub-groups within our communities
Assist in lowering crime in our communities/Nurture strong health families
Protect and celebrate heritage/Bring in tourists
Each group then reported on their discussions. Commission and staff members were given dots
and asked to rate their six most important issues.
7. Review and Discussion of Long Term Capital -This item was deferred for discussion at the next
Commission meeting.
8. Mr. Murray thanked the Commission and staff for their time and indicated that discussion notes
