Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Regular Minutes Page 1 of 7 Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Strategic Planning Meeting Minutes June 9, 2005 1. Ms. Kelly Swift provided a report and PowerPoint presentation on the 2005 Parks and Recreation Survey. This survey was conducted by Ipsos-Reid and the objectives were: to measure residents' use of parks and recreation programs and facilities to measure residents' satisfaction with parks and recreation programs and facilities to assess the level of volunteerism among residents to assess the level of physical activity among residents and their children to compare the above results to those that were tracked in 2002 2. Review of Maple Ridge Council Strategic Priorities -Mr. Murray reviewed the three main priorities for the District of Maple Ridge which includes Economic Development, Smart Managed Growth and Safe & Livable Community. There was a brief discussion. 3. Review of Pitt Meadows Council Strategic Priorities -Mr. Murray and Commissioner Don McLean reviewed the priorities for the District of Pitt Meadows which include: Transportation, Official Community Plan, Civic Centre, Drainage Systems, Fire Department Service Model, Communication, Infrastructure Reserve, Grow Ops, Tourism, and Airport. 4. Review of School District Strategic Priorities -Commissioner Cheryl Ashlie shared a number of the priorities for the School District which include: Community School's concept, Programs with Youth and Seniors, Community Policing and shared Library Services. 5. Gap Analysis -the 2004 ratings were reviewed. This year, rather than have the Commission and staff members rate the twenty-four service objectives individually Mr. Murray suggested that focus be placed on the areas with the largest gaps. 6. Discussion Groups: Commission members then broke into four separate groups with staff members facilitating on the following issues: Spectator Exposure to sporting events/Interpret the Environment Integrate generations within our communities/Integrate sub-groups within our communities Assist in lowering crime in our communities/Nurture strong health families Protect and celebrate heritage/Bring in tourists Each group then reported on their discussions. Commission and staff members were given dots and asked to rate their six most important issues. 7. Review and Discussion of Long Term Capital -This item was deferred for discussion at the next Commission meeting. 8. Mr. Murray thanked the Commission and staff for their time and indicated that discussion notes would be summarized and attached to the minutes.
