Adoption of the Agenda R09-025 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda for May 14, 2009 be adopted as presented CARRIED 2. Minutes of the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Regular Meeting R09-026 It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Regular Meeting of April 9, 2009 be adopted as presented 3. Delegations/Presentations 3.1 Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey CARRIED Doug Strangward Gladys Houston Mr. Doug Strangward provided an overview of his connection to the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association (RMMHA) and circulated an information sheet on the RMMHA. Mr. Murray provided information regarding ice times and fees. Ms. Swift provided an overview of the ice allocation policy and advised that the RMMHA is seeking more ice time at the subsidized rate. Mr. Strangland advised that the Association buys ice time based on the number of players registered and at present registration is 987. 4. Decision Items 4.1 Hosting the 2011 or 2012 BC Seniors Games Shelley Jorde provided an overview of the BC Seniors Games. Discussion took place regarding the financial support received from the province and the specific dollar requirement covered by a local host. R09-027 It was moved and seconded That a recommendation be forwarded to Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Council that a bid be prepared for submission to the BC Seniors Games Society for the two communities to host the 2012 BC Seniors Games dependent upon receipt of support from the senior supporting groups, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Regular Minutes Page 2 of 5 .l .l l ) Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Commission Regular Meeting Minutes -Thursday, May 14, 2009 and further that a budget commitment of $98,500 be placed in the 2012 long term financial plans of both Municipalities to be shared proportionately in accordance with their respective populations. CARRIED 4.2 Meeting with Langley Commission Mike Murray advised that Thursday, October 22, 2009 has been proposed for a meeting with the Langley Commission with the intent to tour the new Langley Events Centre. ACTION ITEM: Mike Murray will confirm the date of October 22, 2009 with the Langley Commission. 5. Discussion Items 5.1 Dog Park Survey and Issues David Boag advised that approximately 75 people attended the Dog Park Open House. He provided an overview of the 185 surveys received in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Mr. Boag advised that additional sites are being investigated for consideration. He advised of a possible opportunity at the Dykes. Mr. Boag sought a community at large volunteer from the Commission to participate in the Dog Park Steering Committee. ACTION-ITEM: Mr. Boag to send an email to the Commission members asking for their participation on the Dog Park Steering Committee. 5.2 Ridge Meadows Seniors Network Forum Results Ms. Jorde provided an overview of the Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge Katzie Seniors Forum of Friday, May 8th, 2009 6. Commission Liaison Reports Councillor Judy Dueck CARRIED Councillor Dueck queried whether there have been complaints received concerning an aggressive coyote in the area of 124th and the Mt. Crescent and Maple Ridge Senior Secondary area. Commissioner Don McLean Commission McLean provided an overview of a recent meeting with Minister Mary Hall with regards to a pilot project for wellness in the community. He advised that the results have not yet been received. Commissioner Angie Rowell Ms. Rowell advised that $2,300 was raised at the Home Show for the Youth Safe House and that MacDonald Realty has agreed to make a $700 donation to top it up to $3,000. 8. Staff Liaison Reports Shelley Jorde Ms. Jorde pointed out an error in the Community Group Satisfaction Survey Report. The scale should indicate 1 through 4 and not 1 through 5. Mike Murray Mike Murray advised of a further Public Open House for the proposed Tree Top Adventure Area scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Old Yennadon School . Mr. Murray circulated the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services Annual Report 2008 and suggested any questions be forwarded to him or addressed at the June meeting. Kelly Swift Ms. Swift advised that the new reader board on Dewdney Trunk Road has been receiving positive comments and that it will promote a comprehensive listing of community events. Ms. Swift advised that the prioritization system is currently being developed and that updates to the website are being done. Ms. Swift provided an overview of the information that can be obtained on the Hosting BC Website. Ms. Swift advised that the Steering Committee for the Sport and Outdoor Recreation Council is in place and provided an overview of the varied sport representation. Ms. Swift provided details of the Games Town Campaign and advised of the Home Show kick off and the Mother's Day "Being Active with your Mom" contest. The website is www.gamestown2010.ca. The first Steering Committee meeting for the Arena operator selection will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd . Ms. Swift further advised of the successful Farmer's Market event which took place on Saturday, May 9th. 9. Question Period 10.
