Call to order Council Liaison Maple Ridge Historical Society Community at Large Community at Large Staff Liaison, Planning Department Committee Clerk Community at Large Maple Ridge Historical Society Community at Large Community at Large Without quorum, the meeting proceeded to discuss unfinished business. 2. Agenda Approval -nil 3. Adoption of the Community Heritage Commission Minutes of Regular Meeting-nil Corporation of the District of Maple Ridge Regular Meeting Community Heritage Commission Minutes Tuesday, JanuwJ' 3, 2006 4. Delegations and Presentations -nil 5. Current Projects and Unfinished Business 5.1 Heritage Award5' Program D. Hall The Staff Liaison confirmed the date for The Heritage Awards Ceremony: Thursday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church. The final date to receive nominations will be Friday, February 3, 2006. The nomination form was circulated for information and will be available at City Hall, the Library, Museum and various government offices. A newspaper ad will go in this week. A poster has been received declaring Heritage Week the week of February 20 and will be posted, along with others that the Commission will produce. Photos of historical buildings will be included so members with appropriate photos are asked to forward them to Diana as soon as possible. Diana will advise when the posters are available so that Commission members can help post throughout the commtmity. She will also organise the refreshments. ► ACTION ITEM: A subcommittee of at least 3 commission members is needed to evaluate the heritage properties, along with local architect Wayne Bissky if he is available on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. Certificates will also need to be prepared. 5.2 Formation of Committees -tabled to the next meeting 5.3 Organization o../Awards Program -discussed in 5.1 above 5. 4 Heritage Strategy Update -tabled to the next meeting 5. 5 Plaque Locations and Strategies for Designation D. Hall The finance committee confirmed that money designated for plaques will be caiTied over until next year. Commissioner Helmi Braches brought a copy of the Maple Ridge Profiles & Heritage Resomce. She will distribute to the Maple Ridge Historical Society and copies will be distributed to the Commission members. Discussion for a running list of possible plaque locations included: Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 2 <~f 3 Community Heritage Commission Minutes Tuesday, January 3, 2006 A plaque in Port Haney commemorating Japanese Intermnent, The Maple Ridge Park at 232nd which is the first park in the community, Davison's Pool area including the north side of the river and Cross's Park, the Maple Ridge Cemetery, Hammond Stadium, and Boundary Park off203rd. The possibility of Cemetery Tours similar to those Langley is currently organizing was also mentioned. 5. 6 Business Plan ReviewfcJr 2006 -tabled until the next meeting 6. New Business Sheila had a phone call in the summer from a Thornhill couple who'd seen a sign in Ke1Tisdale that said Welcome to Southlands. They thought a similar sign welcoming people to Thornhill was a good idea and brought it up at the Public Hearing with the suggested location of 100th & 248th. Engineering provided them with the requirements for road side signage. They've gotten a sign company to design a draft and are willing to pay for its fabrication, but installation would need to be the municipality's responsibility. ► ACTION ITEM: Diana will follow up with engineering and members agreed they should visit the proposed site. Sponsorship around signage was discussed and tabled to following meetings. 7. Committee Reports -nil 8. Correspondence 9.
