Adoption of the Agenda Ros-01 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda for January 3, 2008 be adopted with the following change; It was noted that the year on the Agenda should read; January 3, 2008 3. Adoption of the Community Heritage Commission Minutes of Regular Meeting ROB-02 It was moved and seconded CARRIED That the Minutes of the Community Heritage Commission dated December 4, 2007 Regular Meeting be adopted. Delegations and Presentations -Nil Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 1 of 4 Community Heritage Commission Minutes Thursday, January 3, 2008 4.1 Planning Session Lisa Zosiak distributed the 2008 Business Plan for the Community Heritage Commission along with the 2008 Meeting Schedule for Council. 4.1.1 Where are we now and what did we accomplish in 2007 • Add "Lobbied for Jackson Farm" to 2007 Accomplishments • Jim Connor reviewed the current commitments of the Community Heritage Commission 4.1.2 What do we want to accomplish? Ideas for 2008 • Review Historical Inventory • Heritage strategy-funding and plan preparation • Review and organize inventory, register, designation lists • Review funding opportunities • Public information sessions • Meeting with the Historical Society, build relationship • Completion of the Hammond project • Consideration for the next plaque with sign neighbourhood • Working with Tourism Society on Tourism Plan (Heritage Tourism) • Consider participating in the Simon Fraser River Tour with the Historical Society • Fraser River Tour for the Commission members to Harrison River • Heritage Tourism Workshop on February 15th at the SFU Harbour Centre $195.00 • Explore the role of the Community Heritage Commission in Heritage Tourism • Heritage Awards • Quarterly newsletters • Create a criteria for the Heritage Award Selection • Criteria for Plaque selection process Lynn Probyn volunteered to contact the Vancouver Historical Society to find out more information on a Heritage Strategy and Historical Inventory. 4.1.3 Timeline The Commission agreed to review this information and prioritize each of the items through email and Lisa Zosiak will compile the list for the next meeting. The Commission agreed to start the next meeting at 6:00 to create a timeline for 2008. 5. Current Projects and Unfinished Business 5.1 Plaque Unveiling Cloth -He/mi Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 2 of4 Community Heritage Commission Minutes Thursday, January 3, 2008 Helmi Braches reviewed two samples with the Commission for the Plaque Unveiling Cloth. The Commission agreed to use the first sample. Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission of the dimensions for the plaque. The Commission agreed that Helmi . Braches should go ahead and purchase the material for the unveiling cloth. The Community Heritage Commission logo will be done in red and the Maple Ridge logo will be done in the appropriate colors. 5.2 Statements of Significance Update -Lisa Lisa Zosiak distributed a draft from the consultant (Denise Cook) for the Commission's review. The Commission members will review this draft and revisit it at the next Community Heritage Meeting. 6. New Business 6.1 Funding Grant Opportunity/Heritage Strategy Plan 6.2 2008 Chair & Vice-Chair Appointments Councillor Speirs nominated Jim Connor for the position of Chair and was seconded by Sheila Nickols and Lynn Probyn was reappointed as the Vice-Chair by the Commission. 6.3 Re-appointment of Community Heritage Commission members The Commission reviewed the Community Heritage Commission 2008 membership list. 7. Committee Reports 7.1 Newsletter Helmi Braches advised the Commission that she would like to receive short bios from each member of the Commission along with a picture of all Commission members for one of the next issues. The December newsletter will go out at the end of January and the 2nd Quarter letter will go out at the end of March 2008. ACTION ITEM: The Committee Clerk was asked to create a new Membership list once the new members have been appointed by Council for 2008. 7.2 Plaques Sheila Nickols advised the Commission that she has not had the time to work on the Hammond Plaque information or look for pictures and would like some more time to complete this task. Ms. Nickols also advised the Commission that she is working with Fred Braches on this issue. 7.3 Heritage Awards Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 3 of4 Community Heritage Commission Minutes Thursday, January 3, 2008 Sheila Nickols advised the Commission that the deadline was December 18th and there have not been any applications received for the Heritage Awards to date. Lisa Zosiak advised the Commission that there will be two more ads in the paper. Ms. Nickols requested that the Commission members think of any businesses that would be good candidates for awards and to bring these forward to the sub- committee. Jim Connor advised the Commission that there should be an Agricultural category added to next years awards. 7.4 Plaque Map Jim Connor advised the Commission members that the Plaque Map is in its rough stages and reviewed a map with the Commission and also advised the Commission that this completed map might be included in the Walk Guide for Maple Ridge. Mr. Connor also advised that he has been taking pictures of the plaques along with the building that the plaque is fixed on . Councillor Speirs advised the Commission that Rod Stott can take pictures and attach them to a GPS map and have this on the website. 8. Next Meeting The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. and an agenda deadline of Monday, January 21, 2008. 10. Motion to Adjourn Ros-03 It was moved and seconded That the regular meeting of the Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission be adjourned.
