Public Art Steering Committee Meeting Minutes
March 2, 2023
The Minutes of the Regular Public Art Steering Committee Meeting held via Zoom teleconference and
hosted in the Blaney Room at Maple Ridge City Hall on March 2, 2023 at 4:00 pm.

5.1. Welcome/Member Introductions

New and returning members introduced themselves to the group.
5.2. Advisory Committee Overview
A. Dhillon, Committee Clerk, provided a general overview of Committee proceedings and
functions. D. Pope, Staff Liaison, described the mandate and ongoing work of the Public Art
Steering Committee.
5.3. Chair and Vice Chair Selections
The Public Art Steering Committee appointed Wayne Bissky as Chair and Gina Rubin Leblanc
as Chair Vice for 2023.

That Wayne Bissky be appointed as Chair of the Public Art Steering Committee for 2023.

It was moved and seconded
That Gina Rubin Leblanc be appointed as Vice Chair of the Public Art Steering Committee for
2023.

5.4.2023 Meeting Schedule
The Public Art Steering Committee approved the 2023 meeting schedule.

That the 2023 Pubiic Art Steering Committee meeting schedule be adopted as circulated.

5.5. 2023 Draft Work Plan
The Public Art Steering Committee approved the 2023 Public Art Steering Committee Work
Plan and forwarded the recommendations to Council for approval.

Council for approval.

D. Slevin and D. Pope, Staff Liaisons, provided an overview of the Task Forces on the Public
Art Steering Committee.

It was moved and seconded
That Courtney Miller and Gina Rubin Leblanc be appointed to the Artist in Residence Task
Force for 2023.

5.7. Hummingbird Illumination by Rain Pierre
D. Slevin, Staff Liaison, provided an overview of the Hummingbird Illumination art installation
by Rain Pierre. Committee members discussed the location of the art installation and the ability
to move the art installation to other locations.
5.8. Community Mural Update -Baillie House
D. Slevin, Staff Liaison, provided an overview of the Community Mural outside the Baillie
House. Committee members discussed· the progress, artists, sponsorship and funding
requests.
6. LIAISON UPDATES
6.1. Staff Liaison
Danielle Pope and Darlene Slevin provided an update on the following:
• PRC Master Plan will be presented to Council for approval on February 28, 2023
• The Cultural Collective decided on high priority items in the Culture Plan
6.2. Council Liaison
Councillor Carreras provided an update on the following:
• Council Strategic Planning and mandate
• Kristi Lauridsen and students from School District 42, along with Lisa Shepherd, a local
resident and Metis Artist, presented Council with a piece of art they created to welcome
Ukrainian refugees arriving in Maple Ridge last year
7. QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC -NIL
8. ROUNDTABLE
Committee members provided updates and reports on relevant events and activities related
to public art in the community.
